The government has said it will expand its role in running Liverpool City Council to cover financial decisions, governance and recruitment, after expensive errors by the authority.

The council's past failure to renew some contracts could lead to losses of millions of pounds, a report revealed.

In 2021, the government appointed four commissioners to oversee some functions after a local governance "breakdown".

It will now appoint a fifth to deal with finance.

Not really surprised as when I used to visit fairly frequently after they had been I believe City of Culture the gardens made were a shambles, let go, run down and in some places damaged beyond repair . According to my friends there, the City council decided NOT to carry on maintenance so it went to the dogs.

The only place which was kept up was that near the Cunard building the docks and some other parts, even then it was looking very shabby.I used to visit the local RNR place there .

Sad lovely city ruined by incompetence ....Labour I think !!

This hasn't anything to do with Conservative corruption and incompetence (for once). I don't see Conservative Westminster running Andy Burnham's associates in Manchester.
