Re: climate change
China is experiencing its worst drought since they started keeping proper records in 1961. Crop yields will be affected.
What with the massive drought affecting all of Western Europe as well, food is going to be in short supply this winter and next year - supply and demand means a lot of people will find food expensive and scarce. Corona, Ukraine and now drought is developing into a perfect storm for famine.

Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get.

OMG so-called Ex-spurts talking utter drivel again, the normal ones . My conversation with this ancient farmer was years ago when we were discussing a planned housing estate being built on Flood Plains and his outlook on the subject brought into question the weather, and the cyclical events that transform weather.jackspratt wrote: ↑August 24, 2022, 7:59 pmLet's get back to basics eg weather and climate are not interchangeable terms.
KP's dear old farmer may/or may not have known about the weather where he farmed.
Did he really know about the climate - very doubtful.
When did this conversation occur, KP?
Call it climate ( long term event which change the patterns ) or weather ,( short term occurrences that affect people in a localised place .). There is NO doubnt that the superior animal on thjs plant has created the most devastating situation in removal of huge forested areas ( Amazon Rain Forest ) or concreting over vcast swaths of the earth thereby denying , ground water the ability to be absorbed ( creating floods ) .
Again man fails to look beyond the now, seen in how local planning, national planning or lack of it has affected everyone.
Seeing those drought stones emerging from rivers awakens us all to the dangers of attempting to Play GOD and train nature. The one area on the planet that cannot be trained, altered, adjusted to benefit man ( dams, transportation links ( bridges etc ) but never changed.
I look at bananas they teach you that no matter what they will find water even if the roots have to travels tens of metres to access it, when I removed the 10 or so Banana plants from my garden the roots were metres long having travelled in some places 15 metres long just to ensure they get water`.
Nature will always find a way around problems and we must pay attention or pay the price...ie : Flooding on a greater scale, Climate changes, Hunger and general devastation of previously known habitable areas due to Mans greed and refusal to plan correctly , Action taken today may not affect us on this web-site, most of us are too old to reap the disaster that it befalling us , but our children and our children's children will be affected`.
Ridicule all you like as a way of getting noticed with poor sound bites and sarcastic comments , I care not one jot .
Re: climate change
Whew, after all this we seem to be in agreement that climate science is not local weather. Barney's link was very good showing stats between specialist climate experts and scientists in other disciplines.

All friends again? Good.
Mind you, who here would have KP down as a serial banana killer? Just goes to show, eh?

One must remember that KP and others provide the other side of a story. They talk about matters whether they are right or wrong. These postings give us an avenue to comment disagree etc but should never become personal to the point of calling other names or sarcasm

Re: climate change
Interesting scientific story in todays News, a simple fact that unintentionally it would appear that the Horrendous wildfires in Australia damaged the Ozone layer by simple calculation scientists discovered this and this also could be why we are also experiencing the volatile weather patterns.
While the damage to the Ozone is not as pronounced as before which due to mans love of CFCs damaged it for maybe 80+ years, this small hiccup could last about 3 years.
Sadly the higher heat will result in more wildfires, so manahing open spaces is even more needed now, not just allowing nature to deal as usual, this is one of those times that Mans intervention could assist in reducing the problem, managing woodland ( clearing away the undergrowth ) to creating fire breaks in huge open areas to deter the spread of any fire and Public education ( some think that is a lost cause ) to avoid actions that can start fires accidentally.

Re: climate change
If true that is no good
But the article which this comes from is poorly written
First statement of article
From late 2019 until the start of 2020, the Australian Black Summer bushfires damaged the Earth’s ozone layer by burning millions of tons of soot and ash into the air, according to a new study.

https://www.foxnews.com/world/new-study ... zone-layer
all these papers have used this same story without fixing it first
The word burning should be replaced with sending

Re: climate change
Then there's the burning of the Amazon rainforest that was supposed to get everyone's attention last year or the year before. The "Earth's lungs are on fire" was a popular media tag line. Maybe the scientists haven't gotten around to sticking a "soot value" on that yet? Or maybe they did but nobody noticed? Whereas the Aussie fires are comparatively short and intense, the jungle burn seems to be lower but always there so must be contributing something significant. Like comparing a Bangkok flash food with the longer slower inundation like Venice or Vanuatu?

Apparently Vlad isn't exactly helping things either. Scientists reckon the Russians are leaving the gas on. Some experts suggest it's because of the NATO-led sanctions.

Re: climate change
You don't need to be an expert to know its sanctions causing price craziness. Something to think about, sanctions won't make Russian pensioners sit in cold dark rooms living with hunger pains, but they will make British pensioners suffer badly. According to Reuters Russia exports of oil will bring them a 38% increase in revenues. Sanctions are simply us cutting off our nose to spite our face, they've done nothing but benefit Russia, that's how smart our leaders are. Well actually their not leaders, their buffoons the lot of them , photo opps, soundbites , give me a breaktamada wrote: ↑August 26, 2022, 12:39 pmApparently Vlad isn't exactly helping things either.
