Re: Cricket 2021
They're not playing against those very gentle New Zealand or Indian medium pace bowling attacks.
It has been proven over the years that players like Root and Bairstow love flat tracks and gentle swing and seam bowling (like you would find in county cricket) but die a little bit on the inside when there is a bit of zip in a bowling attack.
Watch Me!!
Re: Cricket 2021
It was pathetic. I messaged my son when we were 5 or 6 down to say how appalling it was seeing test cricketers laughing after another swing and miss. It's a 5 day test. The previous victories were freak results against predictable attacks as you say marjamlew.
I've not heard any comments from Sir Geoffrey but I reckon he was a nice shade of pace watching that circus.

The guys out of touch. I've spoken to many people over the past few days and, even the most rabid Royalists can see the merit in going ahead with the football and, getting people together to mourn and celebrate en masse.stattointhailand wrote: ↑September 10, 2022, 5:56 pm

Hopefully next weeks fixtures will go ahead and I can be at Old Trafford watching Leeds lose rather than watching nondescript La Liga games on TV.
Oh and lame batting performances by England and SA again yesterday

Looks like the weather is gonna save the Aussies from a whitewash in the T20's.
currently 30 - 3 when the rain came. Need to bowl another 7 balls to be considered a match with the target of 52 DLM

Re: Cricket 2021
10.25pm: Match abandoned, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Although, for Australia, the washout does mean they avoid losing the series 3-0. It's been a mucky night at Manuka, and it ends seven balls shy of producing a result. England will be the happier of the two sides as they head to Brisbane for a World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan; they have won six our of their last nine completed T20Is, and might feel they would have edged this one, too. Australia, the defending T20WC champions, look slightly short of a gallop - but still time to get their ducks in a row before the pointy end of a home tournament
Re: Cricket 2021
Bern watching the preliminary round of the T20 WC. Not much there to worry the big boys although it's been fun to watch the Paddies chase down the Jocks today. Pity because it would have been nice to see a one sided England v Scotland clash when the big boys join in. SL & WI look like pale shadows of their previous teams.
The real tournament starts on Saturday and, it's hard to see past England or Australia.
Bangla, Afghanistan and the qualifiers have no chance. SA and NZ look average teams. India's attack looks weak and Pakistan are heavily reliant on their openers.
Say it quietly but we might just win this and I'm beginning to wish I'd gone Down Under to join the Barmy Army.
I'll keep my head down when Afghanistan beat us on Saturday.

Re: Cricket 2021
Unfortunately with most of these wham bam thank you mam type competitions, a lot of it is down to who wins the toss and gets to pick if they want to use any early bowling advantage the pitch/weather may offer or set a daunting batting target, At least with proper cricket if you lose the toss and early wickets you have a chance to repair the damage in the second innings
Re: Cricket 2021
Killjoy . I've gone off test cricket after watching England recently and, will take the crumbs where I can.
It's not in the sub-continent where the toss is vital. I've never noticed a particular bias in Oz but, the lacal colonials may educate me on this.

Unless it's England where they usually break out the shovels for their second innings.stattointhailand wrote: ↑October 19, 2022, 3:52 pmUnfortunately with most of these wham bam thank you mam type competitions, a lot of it is down to who wins the toss and gets to pick if they want to use any early bowling advantage the pitch/weather may offer or set a daunting batting target, At least with proper cricket if you lose the toss and early wickets you have a chance to repair the damage in the second innings
