It was Richard Todd not Dirk Bogarde. I know because my father, ex-Navy person, made me sit through it when I was just a small boy. The first Doctor Who, William Hartnell, was in it as well. Poor film, only appealing to those who like a ship going up and down a river and big bangs. Sorry about the "butterly".
