Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
IMHO one can use Google so long as they do not publish the results, in doing so they will only be cheating themselves. No satisfaction in that!

Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
I think its called "cheating yourself" if you do, what would be the point? It's supposed to be a bit of fun
Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
Exactly BD. You're only cheating yourself. What's the point.
I'm guessing a few of the people who were doing that (not mentioning any names) have given up anyway due to no one giving a nonsense if your clever or not.
Edit, chief cheater Satto was posting at the same time.
Only joking.

Boys will be boys and Egos can often stand in the way. There's some strange people out there who will do anything to get attention.

Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
Just two questions which will be difficult answer even using Google. A man whose Christian name was "Adrian" lived and died in my town. He lies in an unmarked grave and his invention has saved the lives of hundreds of thousands, possibly millions. He passed away on Christmas Day 1876 having had a comfortable life but not with the riches he would have had if he had patented the revolutionary item.
What was his surname and what did he invent?

Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
After a quick scan, I think most have been answered. The Emperor was a Radio 1 DJ and also did a stint on Caroline and(maybe) Luxemburg.

Not a lot to go on. Can we assume your town is Udon, or is "my town" somewhere else?can123 wrote: ↑September 21, 2022, 2:51 pmJust two questions which will be difficult answer even using Google. Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
Would I be "whistling in the wind" if I said it was to do with steam?
Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
Crikey, good question and I don't know the answer. Can think of some famous inventions around that time;can123 wrote: ↑September 21, 2022, 2:51 pmJust two questions which will be difficult answer even using Google. What was his surname and what did he invent?
Electric Light Bulb - Didn't Edison steal that of a Brit?
Telephone - Bell might have stolen that?
Winchester Rifle - but that would be responsible for taking lives and not saving them?
Can we get a clue?

Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
See my previous question Deano, and have a word with Stephen ......... if he doesnt know get him to phone the other Stephen and between them they should have the answer
Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
Well done, Statto ! There is a shabby earthenware plaque on the ground as one enters the cemetery but this has weathered and is barely decipherable. Yes, Adrian Stephens invented the steam whistle. He worked with Richard Trevithick and our town saw the first locomotive run on rails. Not George Stephenson. It's amazing to think that every time one sees an old film with steam engines the first whistle to be heard was in my home town.
Re: QUIZ TIME IN UDON
It took two people to invent the steam whistle? I hope there is a huge sign upon entering the town, Cox on Devenham (or whatever its called) home of the steam whistle. Perhaps accompanied by a coin-in-the-slot mechanical thingy that reproduces the shrill sound as it was meant to be heard.

Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.
