New York New York is now Closed

Post by lee » August 17, 2007, 6:48 pm

As of today, the disco "New York New York" is now closed. New York was a trendy hip-hop disco in the center of Udon opposite the Charoensri Grand Hotel. They hosted live music and random concerts through the year. The reason for closure is not 100% clear, but possibly due to lack of customers and/or partnership problems.

I never saw any customers in there when I used to walk past on my patrol from the Irish Clock to Farang Alley. Shame, it looked like a nice venue, but the choice of music (Hip Hop) put me off. Tawan Daeng being next door did not do New York New York any favours, as it has such a famous reputation.
No contest really. :|

I was in it once and as much as I like live music, it was deafening... 2 of us (fahlang) wondered if we have more sensitive hearing as we literally could not talk to each other but the natives chatted away no problem. I agree about Sawan Daeng then throw in Yellow Bird and Mambo. It just wasn't good enough!

I think they should have done something really different to compete with the already established places like Mambo, Little Rock, Tawang Deang, Yellow Bird etc. From what I saw it was just another disco with live music but minus the coyote dancers. Maybe something along the lines of Bed Superclub in Bangers would have attracted more attention.
