Oh yes, I know this one from primary school history, when I did a project on Zanzibar conflicts throughout history. No need to google it; :-"
The Anglo-Zanzibar War was a military conflict fought between the United Kingdom and the Zanzibar Sultanate on 27 August 1896. The conflict lasted between 38 and 45 minutes, marking it as the shortest recorded war in history

I think it is recorded as 38 mins 09:02 (first salvo) - 09:40

Queen Victoria was nearly dumped into the road when the horses pulling her gun carriage were frightened. After that, sailors were used. Sailors don't get frightened.

Thanks for the newspaper extract. I did not Google my answer but remembered that one of the TV commentary team had mentioned it. I didn't realise that it such a spectacular event.
