Cricket 2021
Re: Cricket 2021
“They have demolished the Australians ... that was an annihilation," former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson said in commentary.
"The Australians didn’t expect this at all.”

Shame for the Kiwis that it wasn't a final. They may have achieved something

Re: Cricket 2021
Great game last night. For a while it looked like the Aussies were going to bow out but Maxwell and a brilliant innings by Stoinis saw them home.
Best part was seeing Finch playing possibly the worst opening T20 innings I've seen. Only sad part of this was that it wasnt Davey boy struggling.
The India v Pakistan game on Sunday was also a classic.
England playing Ireland shortly in, what looks like, a deserted MCG. Won the toss so, hopefully, batting second, we can win even if the weather comes into it.

My case rests your honourstattointhailand wrote: ↑October 19, 2022, 3:52 pmUnfortunately with most of these wham bam thank you mam type competitions, a lot of it is down to who wins the toss and gets to pick if they want to use any early bowling advantage the pitch/weather may offer or set a daunting batting target, At least with proper cricket if you lose the toss and early wickets you have a chance to repair the damage in the second innings
Re: Cricket 2021
Not at all Stats, it was a riveting watch. Batting 2nd, we should been in control of the run rate early on to ensure that DL was in our favour. It's not rocket science and, even a layman like me sent a message to my friends before England batted making that point.
Ireland bowled better and deserved the win although it is a flaw in DL that England 6 wickets down is not the same as Ireland in the same position and, I believe we would have won with 2 decent batsmen to come . It is the fairest system though so, as I said, no excuses .
Big game on Friday with the losers probably out. Looking at the forecast, more rain is predicted which, arguably, suits the Aussies more.

Re: Cricket 2021
It's unbelievable weather. Humid and wet! I can cop cold and wet in Melbourne around Cup time, that's par for the course, but humid Club cricket season here traditionally starts first weekend in October and the guys at my club haven't haven't made it into their flannels yet. 90% chance of rain tomorrow and Friday so this weekend not looking any good either. Another variable in the 20-20 lottery.

Lots of rain about. At least now it's cold and wet. Humidity seems to have gone north again. Not looking too good for the cricket.

Re: Cricket 2021
In spite of Stats negativity, it's been a thrilling tournament so far with a few classic matches.
England knocked out Oz today by limping home against SL. Pity as I think, despite their failings, Australia would been a real threat. I've not seen any press to see if hes getting slaughtered but, our favourite colonial, Davey W played a crazy shot yesterday when he looked like he was hitting his stride and could have put more pressure on Englands run rate.
Likely to be India for ir England in the semis. In spite of Kohlis brilliance I would rather face them in the semis than SA who I reckon will surprise NZ.
I still expect England to win the trophy.

Re: Cricket 2021
Given Australia's inglorious departure on home turf - albeit from a hit and giggle exhibition game - I delved back into when Australia last won this trophy.
Seeing as it was only 12 months ago, I pondered over what had changed, besides the silly venue. I may be wrong, but the most obvious change was the sacking of the successful coach.
Langer was seemingly not popular with his (various) squad(s), and in particular the very modern man, and squeaky clean captain, Patrick Cummins. Be that as it may, coaches/managers in most major sports are not there to be best friends with the players. Be interesting to see how it plays out over the next 12 months.
But back to now - happy to see the Kiwis win, particularly if it means knocking off the Poms.

Re: Cricket 2021
Another cricket snob to rival Stats (or a bad loser )
I've been round the world supporting England and am a huge advocate of longer format cricket.
However, sport is entertainment and T20, is just that. It's less of a long term mental challenge but, the skills are equal if not greater and more diverse.
This has been one of the best tournaments in recent memory because it has favoured bat and ball equally. England knocked the Aussies out yesterday because of a brilliant bowling turnaround in the space of 20 mins the like of which you wouldnt see in test cricket.
Actually, what do I know? I've just watched Holland destroy SA so, looks like NZ will make the final after all.

Don't know about statts, but I am OK with the 50 over version.
T20 to me is more a game of luck/chance, rather than skill. I am looking for a bit more than just entertainment when I am watching a sport that I have more than just a passing interest or familiarity with.
Carn the Blackcaps.

Re: Cricket 2021
Too late to jump on the bandwagon Stats. Your comments earlier indicated that, in this format, a 10 wicket victory over India would be all down to the luck of the toss. Stick to crowing about a footie team, who were going nowhere, but had the dubious luck of being bought by the Saudis.
Brilliant England win today.

Re: Cricket 2021
Bull****
Englands glorious victory was down to the Indians being scared to attack a bloody stupid "powerplay' (what's that all about, certainly not cricket). Perhaps they should introduce a powerplay into footie ........ only 3 defenders allowed in your penalty area for the first 15 mins of a game ....... oh 'ang on that's Jesse's usual tactics at Leeds isnt it

Re: Cricket 2021
What a fantastic slog from Hales & Buttler. Only saw the highlights but very entertaining.
In my humble opinion Cricket was dying a death in England when I was a teenager. The likes of T20 in the IPL and BBL has put life back into the game and the result is Cricket is alive and well world wide. You could argue that it has in turn saved the test match format because we now have enough interest in the game from the youth.
