What is the chance that the reasoning behind this stems from the Thai government not wanting to offend China.

The CCP has accused countries that require China originated travelers to be tested, by making it a blanket requirement they get Chinese passengers tested and don't offend.

A bit cute, but also throwing baby out with the bathwater.

They're being pragmatic, like the US, UK, EU, etc., etc.. They're not targeting Chinese but ANYONE of ANY nationality getting on a flight departing from China. They've got westerners potentially carrying new variants mixing it up with those from China who haven't reaped the benefits of being exposed to all these mutations or better vaccines.

I'm reading it as flights departing from anywhere, not just China.

If you read the press release it is all passengers from all locations not just China. Other countries targeted only Chinese origins of departure.

You're both correct.

It's all inbound from everywhere.

Forgive me for missing the elevation of rules since the original panic about the Chinese peril. Being fully vaccinated, it's ultimately irrelevant.

I understood they were making all passengers departing from China present a negative PCR test? Or did this idea get dropped?

If you are fully vaccinated you can enter.
If you are not fully vaccinated you need a negative test.
Proof that you have recovered from Covid within the pat 7-90 days.

It doesn’t matter where your flight originates, you need 1 of the 3 listed above to enter starting Monday.

"It’s probably just a coincidence, but just as China is easing their travel blocks and allowing its citizens to travel abroad, Covid-19 travel restrictions are officially back. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has recently announced a set of rules that will apply to all non-Thai arrivals between January 9 and 31."
Coincidence, my ... grandmother.
"The broad requirements were placed on all travelers assumably because China threatened retaliation against any country that placed specific restrictions against travelers from China."

Hi Ken,

Are you sure about your second line? I did not see this option mentioned anywhere?

Thanks

So as I read it insurance is only required for countries that require proof of a negative covid 19 test before departing Thailand?

Had another Covid shot (Phizer) at Udon Hospital today. Nurse told me to come again in 6 months for the next shot. This could go on forever. Someone is making a lot of money over this.

Second booster then. That's aligned with the NHS (UK) recommended regimen for the +65's. I was going to get my second booster before Christmas while I was in the UK but I ran out of time. They're available here so now it's just procrastination.

Did Anutin's name actually appear on the short-lived edict? He makes public statements but the obfuscation kicks in with all these medical specialists spouting the science and then (I believe) the AOT jumped the shark with need for certificates.

I thought Prayuth was ultimately still in charge of all-things Covid?

The CDC and US FDA are looking into whether Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) and BioNTech's (NASDAQ:BNTX) updated, bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is associated with a higher ischemic stroke risk in those 65 and older.
I don't think this vaccine is available in Thailand. I believe they are still distributing the original vaccine. The bivalent version was developed to combat the Omicron strain.
