The pass mark was 100% in Berlin back in 1995.Whistler wrote: ↑January 22, 2023, 5:11 pmSo if there is progress without it being a silver bullet, it is a failure? If COP has been pretty damned weak we should never try anything else? The only pass mark is 100%tamada wrote: ↑January 22, 2023, 5:03 pmWhat? This bash in Davos could deliver the solutions that every COP has failed to do since Berlin in 1995?Whistler wrote: ↑January 22, 2023, 4:10 pmWhat has the prices at the location got to do with anything, they paid their own way and are entitled to stay where they wish. Maybe it is worth waiting to see what comes out of the conference, if it produces outcomes that significantly contribute to climate action, the 'massive' emissions might be small beer.
I think I'll have another Old Pulteney, thanks.

Re: climate change
Interesting to note the cynicism on this forum. How many of you actually know what Davos achieves, too many on here quick to criticise but poor on actual knowledge.
Here is 2017. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/01/ ... davos-2017
How about 2020

2023 looks like shaping up the same way.
So you miserable bunch in the backwaters of Thailand seem to have nothing better to do than act like a bunch of carping old women, and this thread is a stark example of that sadsack attitude.

Re: climate change
No point in me losing sleep over climate change. The only thing that will lead to "change" is if the moneymen see a way to make more money from it

I've noticed this appears to be cyclical. Weeks on end of borderline friendly bonhomie and then suddenly it's like someone's pissed in your cornflakes. Not that we're overly concerned but do you have any clues as to why this happens?
PS: Thanks for those links.

Re: climate change
In the latter yars of my life , having enjoyed most things, I do see that there is a problem that needs to be addressed, and although I understand the risks of doing nothing what if anything will affect me.
In truth one can moan and groan about what the younger generation will do`( Truthfully nothing that is done will affect my life.
True we all try to economise, recycle and grow trees ec, a small effort to appease our sensibilities . BUT affct Climate change,. when centuries ago the earth was warmer, wetter and in some years cooler as well, My gran remembered when the Thames in London froze over .
Now we are seenmg unprecendented rainfall in some places we forget that all weather is cyclical, the internal forces that shape our planet shake rattle and roll to maintain the weather in terms of tens of thousands of years, not the paltry 5/6000 years many allude to .
Why worry !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: climate change
Agreed. Like the empty pension funds, depleted social security pots and soaring deficits, let the young and the feckless sort out all this mess the old and the indolent have made. After all, they seem to know everything already.Khun Paul wrote: ↑January 23, 2023, 7:08 amIn the latter yars of my life , having enjoyed most things, I do see that there is a problem that needs to be addressed, and although I understand the risks of doing nothing what if anything will affect me.
