Re: climate change
Who bloody cares governmental fuded junkets are now the norm and poor suckers like the rst of the world have to look listen and then collectively ignore what they say , as a goodly proportion of the world will not be aliv `ij 3/40 years it really does not matter, in my etheral spirit I will look down and think, see told you so.
Re: climate change
Government funded junkets?
The forum is not run by any government, it was initiated and still run by business leaders. Business people attending the conference have to pay 100,000 USD plus meet all of their own expenses.

Re: climate change
Not surprised at 100k $ + as private jets are not cheap
Re: climate change
That is fees, costs for private plane is on top of that plus accommodation, plus food and entertainment, plus costs for staff. Private business people are probably spending north of 250,000.

And claiming 275,000 back in tax exemptions that could be funding healthcare etc
Re: climate change
So successful business people donate several days of their very valuable time for free, incur huge costs but should not claim a legitimate business expense.stattointhailand wrote: ↑January 25, 2023, 6:28 pmAnd claiming 275,000 back in tax exemptions that could be funding healthcare etc
Congratulations on finding a negative, says a lot. I spoke on this forum about the attitude of too many on this forum. Your post is a fine example of that attitude.
In Australia is is called the tall poppy syndrome, one of the lesser attractive traits for my adopted country

Re: climate change
SFA to do with climate change - but I find the "tall poppy" and the "don't take yourself too seriously" aspects of Oz culture to be quite endearing, and defining.

Re: climate change
I agree that jealously may be one of the manifestations, but it is not how I personally view it.
I see it more benignly - more along the lines of reminding people that no matter how high they climb the ladder, their shxt stinks the same as the rest of us.
And I don't take it too seriously.

Should we take the "spirits of the Sea Country" seriously?
The Australian government's environmental regulator certainly thinks that Santos should.

What part is BS?
You might be skeptical about wiki, but if you have another sources please quote it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Economic_Forum
I have read different reports that range from 71,000 to 100,000. Please note that ticket is 19 000 but membership per year is 52000.
Now that is just the basic cost the real value is attending industry sessions where the cost to attend soars to as much as 263,000.
So tell me again what part of my post is BS

Re: climate change
But all this spending may soon be going out of vogue. As one attendee, the author David Rothkopf, recently wrote on his blog, “The entire endeavor is fading for several reasons, all associated with the inadequacy of Davos as a networking forum.”

Re: climate change
locally ive of the opinion climate change is making the current Udon morning temps chillier .. this morning 6am it was 11 degrees and my porridge skinned over very quickly which is way more important than using private jets n gas guzzling suvs to nip to Ban Jan lotus for some afters of sardines on toast.
I got an invite to Davos but gave it to Greta Thunberg as way to busy here on my latest invention a non metalic rotating mechanism that stops porridge forming a skin as it cools.. ive called it PLASTIC SPOON and hope it catches on.

Re: climate change
Less than 10% travelled to Davos in private jets. A simple and verifiable fact. You are 'making out' whatever that strange phrase may be in this context.
I have only heard that expression about teenagers playing with each other's young bodies, I can assure you I am not touching up any Davos attendees.
