I still miss Edward .. and my sortees to Ban Dung alas its just too much hassle digging out my old dungerees and getting the cholera n typhoid booster jabs ..jackspratt wrote: ↑February 24, 2023, 11:59 amSounds like an urban legend to me, mak.
There is nowhere to land a plane at the VOA, nor in Ban Dung. It was also constructed in 1994.
It has civilians manning the gate, much as you would see at any large factory around Thailand. It is also situated on one of the main roads into Ban Dung from Udon Thani.
BD is far less dodgy these days since Eddie died, as we see much less of the dark-skinned shopkeeper from UT.
Hey Jack .. I dug out this old photo i took of you,BDD and Eddie all spruced up going to the local morlam , Eddie in the middle , BDD the tanned chap on the left and you the other ...

Did someone say the place was well guarded?
The only way this place is used for torture is if they're broadcasting K-Pop out.

Soviet aircraft at the VOA site? It's true.

I visited the VOA site in 1998ish.....got a full tour of the facility, including the transmission room, and a drive around the huge antenna field. It was pre-2001, so there's no telling what might have changed, if anything, between 1998-2001.

Re: CIA Operated Secret Torture Site in Thailand
been there several times from 1997 till 2010... I don't believe any of the crap bandied around about the VOA site or the old 7th RRFS Ramasun camp. If any of the captured people were "renditioned" to Udon it was in all probability the Air Base where they stayed. Tail Number tracking of rendition flights show some landing at Udon..
Band Dung with its 100 meter masts holding up large shortwave antennas and at the time crappy road out to the site just wouldn't make sense...

Maybe not a good site for fixed wing aircraft.
We can hardly rely on the CIA to admit torture sites, but there is simply too much evidence that such sites exist. Also the ridiculous declaration that water boarding did not constitute torture.
Speculation is likely to remain unless one of the CIA guys gets a fit of remorse and makes some sort of declaration or death bed confession. Otherwise, to use a Scottish legal term 'Not Proven'.

Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.
