Looks like they have one section up. Past through about 1530 and the police where ready to stop traffic for a crane lifting a huge concrete column. Later passing through about 1800 it appears that they completed one section laying the columns horizontally. I was amazed they got this much done in such a short period.

Drove under the new concrete beams that span the junction.
Was surprised to see that there is only approximately 6 inches of concrete beam resting on the support either end. There is then a larger gap of around 10inches between the supports and the rest of the concrete beam.
All very well allowing for expansion, but I would feel happier if the spans where resting on a little bit more than 6 inches of concrete either end. Hope someone got his measurements right.

Big C
I will circumnavigate this overpass in the future. It is dangerous and no doubt it will end up as a disaster some day. COLLAPSE!!!

I doubt any of us are experts in the area of engineering concrete structures, but as I sat at the traffic light, staring up at the newly laid beams, my thoughts echoed those of Galee. It occurred to me that the beams are a little short, but this being Thailand, they used what they have and just went ahead and assembled them. I don't know what engineering standards would even look like, but this definitely looks unsafe to me.

That could be a little worrying - I hope it was really cold when you were staring at those beams - concrete contracts as it cools down, so if it cools down from when you were looking at them those beams will get even shorterrickfarang wrote:I doubt any of us are experts in the area of engineering concrete structures, but as I sat at the traffic light, staring up at the newly laid beams, my thoughts echoed those of Galee. Do not worry I will ask them to put up 'only saamlaws allowed' sign at each end.Local law means Buffalo are exempt!maxeboy wrote:I will circumnavigate this overpass in the future. It is dangerous and no doubt it will end up as a disaster some day. COLLAPSE!!!

First legal ride over thr overpass today, the inbound side had all the barricades removed so I went for it. The Thai drivers didn't beleive it so they all carried on to the lights although I saw one do a drastic manoeuver to make the bridge when he realised that I had gone over it. Save me about 10 mins a day
But do you really trust this structure to remain standingfatbas***d wrote:First legal ride over thr overpass today, the inbound side had all the barricades removed so I went for it. Has anyone noticed an improvement in traffic flow since the overpass opened?
It appears to me that the timing of the traffic lights on the ring road are exactly the same, meaning long waits on the ring road and periods of no traffic going in and out of town because they are using the overpass.
I wont hold my breath hoping that they lengthen the timing of the lights to allow more time for ring road traffic.
