The Nicest W.C.s in Udon (or not as the case may be)

Post by Paul » August 30, 2007, 11:30 pm

On a recent trawl of some of Udons late night venues - a thought came to mind about a thread posted about a year ago praising some of Udons nicer toilets.
I was in Mr Tongs at this time and standing in stale urine trying not to inhale the stink - and therfore I nominate Mr Tongs bar for having the worst toilets in Udon (Taking into account that he is amongst the most expensive place to have a beer in Udon.
All 3 of the toilets were leaking all over the floor (and therfore customers have to stand in other peoples urine, the smell was disgusting and there is no privacy whatsoever as people (male AND female) pass behind you whilst (quite literally) taking a 'leak'

Do you know of anywhere worse ?

I think that it should reflect the quality and price of the establishment (ie. dont say that the 20 baht fast food shop down the road has a crap toilet)

Mr Tongs should be ashamed of themselves.
Very expensive decor, very expensive drinks and disgusting facilities.

I agree, Tongs toilets are disgusting and right now i cant think of anywhere worse. Also Tongs bar is beginning to go the same way as his toilets,,,

The Irish Clock and the City Lodge have got the nicest Gary Glitters.
I love the cartoons in the Irish Clock gentlemens dumpery.
Esp. the cartoon of the dog who has swallowed his owners viagra tablet.

I think we've found the answer already.
I totally agree with above, I was in Tongs bar last weekend, the missus wanted to leave after 15 mins as she needed the WC and wouldn't entertain the facilities there.
The manner of the staff has changed somewhat from when we were last there, a few months ago. It was like being back in a pub in the UK, walked to the bar as the waiting staff ignored us and were chatting with I guess their friends, and was asked in a condecending tone "what d'you want"? Then they got the order wrong.
The 2 pisshead young falangs didn't help much either throwing beer over each other and anyone within 10 feet of them and being laughed at by the staff behind the bar.........
Guess we won't be going back there in a looooooooooong time.

The worst Crapper in all of Isarn, Thailand and the world has got to be the Ban Dung Bus Station, as not only the smell of the place makes you almost faint. You are lucky not to faint when they ask you 3 baht to use it. So comparin value for money???!!

At least if need to, you can sneak into Tongs for free!!

Also in Tongs those f**individual chains do my head in and as has been said there is no privacy. I hate to see those poor Thai guys crying when they see me standing back to make room for it.

Irish Clock is hard to beat for a pub/restaurant... Hotel quality toilets and yup those cartoons are good.

New York New York when it was open had pretty bad toilets for a place only just opened and also having to get past the ladyboy's in the corridor without being manhandled.I can manhandle myself thank you :D
So Paul you will not be frequenting in Tongs anymore? or is the eyecandy that good that you will have to grin and bear the smell when having a jimmy riddle and pay the skyhigh drink prices.
Mambo has all those massageboys looking for 20 baht tips in the toilets and give you the stare when you leave without paying them.

Tip: Perfect the art of washing your hands in a half-turn and if they move towards you turn around wipe your hands and leg it! You'll get the hang of it with a bit of practice.

Good subject because I think that the state of Toilets reflect the owners attitude to his / her customers. If they can't be bothered to keep a reasonable standard, I can't be bothered to patronize the place.
For that reason have only been into Mr T's once, never to return.

The toilets in the Charoensri shopping complex get my vote for one of the worst W.C's in Udon. Most of the stand up urinals are not working and the ones that are stink. I opened one of the doors of the sit down toilets and was confronted with a sight something similar to this: Image

However, Robinson

I am a very frequent visitor to Mambo and can say without hesitation that they DO NOT have massage boys in the toilets - its one of the good things I like about it.
Little Rock has them, Climax has them as does Tawaen Deng, however I usually find that in those places the facilities are nice and clean and its not excessive to give 10 or 20 baht as a tip for someone who spends his evenings sat in a toilet.

Its my policy to tip the first one or two times I visit in a night and after that just a wave of my hand 'no' usually suffices, and they leave me alone.

But this is not about toilet attendents - its about venues with filthy disgusting toilets who don't care about them - only about selling beer.

Seems that Tongs has the edge here because he has some of the most expensive beer - yet some of the worsr toilet facilities.

Any more nominations ?

I must congratulate the new owner of mojo bar for getting running water installed in the toilets - something Alan - the previous owner always maintained was impossible to do because of 'this that and the other excuse'. They now have running water, liquid soap and an electric hand drier. One of the better places.

I think that's a bonus about Mambo too, no hassels when taking a leak, plus the Khazi's are kept clean too.

Toilets aside, I think Mambo rates one of the best discos in Udon, but that's another subject. ;)

I think Good Everything would rate the nicest Hong Naam in my book, it's clean has Thai orchids sprinkled in the sink, fresh cut flowers, scented candles, sea shells decortating the walls and a tree growing in the middle, I guess theis restaurant really does stand up to its name.

.

It was sometime ago about Mambo and they were there!!
Anyway sorry, not a clubaholic like you Paul, have other things to do :D

2 further bars toilets that are crap.happymybar, piss on the floor,no flushing facility,no running water to wash your hands and the bar next to it that has airconditioning.the toilet reminded me of the economy toilets on a plane,no room to swing a cat let alone to try and turn round and walk out,you have to walk out backwards! May as well not have a toilet in the first place!

Ahhh!! Bandung.
The crapper in the market is also a reeking hell hole, one whiff of that rancid piss smell, and I feel like a invisible hand has reached inside and pulled up my nuts from the inside.
Widgets of dried turd are stuck on the walls of the cubicles. You have to pay to use this as well.

The men's washroom at the Udon International airport is pleasant as far as these things go, and I found the ones at the Charoen fine too. Fortunately, I have not run into any problems in Thailand or Vieng Chan, Laos on this trip but a friend of mine from New York came running out of a washroom in Chiang Mai and asked me what the Thais use since there was no toilet paper. I saved the day by giving him kleenex. Our girlfriends would not explain to him what the Thais use in lieu of toilet paper. And, I do not want to see any photos!

OK, so the next time you guys wonder why women carry a purse everywhere....understand that we have kleenex, AND wet wipes, AND hand sanitizer, etc., in addition to our necessities like lipstick and moisturizer.

Too be honest(or should I say two be honest),I'd have to be suffering from dysentry before I'd even consider number twos in some of Udons establishments !!
But three that pass the test are:
Irish Clock
Good Everything
Robinsons Relax Room (Charoensri Ground Floor).
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.
