Vietnamese Kao Piak, Still Going Strong after 60 Years

Post by parrot » December 10, 2022, 1:40 pm

There are kao piak (ข้าวเปียก) stores aplenty in Udon, but maybe none better than Kao Piak Sen, directly across Srisuk Rd from the satellite post office. The original owner (mother) had the shop for 40 years, then her son ran it for another 20. Now the next generation are running the recently remodeled/reopened/air conditioned store. You can get your Vietnamese noodles cheaper......but this place serves up a bowl with plenty of meat on the bone. Lots of other dishes to choose from as well.

My second favourite breakfast place in town (assuming we are talkmg about the same place).
Love the little pork bun things and the fried eggs.

After 14 years of only taking home their "3 kinds of soups" at 06h00, we simply love eating in now.

The ambiance is incredible, compared to what it was. The renovation is just "wow" and the expanded menu offerings give plenty of variety.
