Re: America coming apart at the seams?
I can't understand why those under 18 can't carry a handgun.
Surely it is an infringement of their god-given and Constitutional right to do so.

Bravo
I say issue them with the paperwork (if needed) as soon as they are born along with a Birth Certificate

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
The second amendment is plain ridiculous in this era, America has a special sort of mass lunacy. It will never change

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
NOPE and I agree that LUNACY seems to be the way american Politics is working towards, but then they get what they vote for, someone really ne34ds to rmove the blinkers and allow Americans to think again.
Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Well, first, the Second Amendment is fine as worded, but the gun proponents ignore the first part of it.
well regulated: Gun proponents want NO regulations. But that's not what the Second Amendment says.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, . . . .
Militia: When the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791, there was no regular military in the U.S., nor were the any local/civilian police forces. A citizen militia provided protection. Obviously that no longer applies, since we now have both.
someone really ne34ds to rmove the blinkers and allow Americans to think again: I find this an absurd statement. There's nothing preventing Americans from independent thinking. The election of Trump and the movement of the populace to the right was entirely voluntary. It's been the free choice of Americans. And that's the problem. I don't see Trump being elected again. He has now been shown conclusively to be a liar. (Conclusively, that is, to all except the 30% or so of Americans who identify as Trump sycophants.) And the movement to the right? The left has to start offering an appealing and rational alternative, which hasn't happened yet. As James Carville said, "The Democrats are spending their time figuring out which bathroom people should use, while the Republicans have been figuring out how to win elections."

The Supreme Court has had many, many opportunities to agree with the militia qualification on the right to bear arms. Each time they have refused to do so. Same for other branches of government. Unfathomable to the rest of the developed world but the religious like fervour for the immensely outdated constitution outweighs all common-sense.Udon Map wrote: ↑April 19, 2023, 5:05 pmWell, first, the Second Amendment is fine as worded, but the gun proponents ignore the first part of it.well regulated: Gun proponents want NO regulations. Also interesting to see that "life expectancy" in US is far lower than in civilised countries like Germany/France/Australia/Canada/UK etc where proper gun controls exist ..... if fact its even lower than Thailand who have a mass of 18/24 yr old males on motorbikes skewing their figures ![Whistle :-"](./images/smilies/eusa_whistle.gif)

I completely agree, Whistler, although it appears that I could have said it more clearly. The Constitution says what it says. The gun nuts just choose to ignore those words which do not support their extremist position.Whistler wrote: ↑April 19, 2023, 6:11 pmThe Supreme Court has had many, many opportunities to agree with the militia qualification on the right to bear arms. You can still privately own a canon or a Howitzer in most states. NEIGHBOURHOOD DISPUTES COULD BE INTERESTING.

I think that you are receiving a distorted view of the U.S. "Weekly updates" hardly give one an accurate and complete picture. The Americans who chose Trump did so freely. There were several reasons, but being forced to vote for him by gangs was not one of them.Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 6:55 amHAVING HAD relatd to me first hand how a republian gang harrassed e of my cousins for even wishing to put up a sign for an independent , I would state free thinking amercans maybe but free from ganmgs of one party or anothr NO, and that is what Trump and his thugs were / are doing Weekly i get updats and the picture of freedoms and free speech coupled wih gun violence and threats ae doubling . Re: America coming apart at the seams?
I remember during the Falklands War, some Councils in London banned the flying of the Union or English flags, but encouraged the flying of West Indian flags. Anyone who flew the Union flag would be fined and have that flag taken down. In the U.S., I think one can still fly the flag of the Army of North Virginia, commonly known as the Confederate flag, on your property without any consequences. Freedom means different things to different countries and people.

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Confederate Flags may be flown only at Private places, such as one's home.

Just saw a clip of Trumps MAGA Youth group taking over part of downtown Chicago, because they elected another Democrat Mayor. Wondering how he was able to pay them all since his bagman (Cohen) turned on him?

Doodoo, I read it in the English newspapers when I was doing academic research in London. Give me awhile and I will try and google a link for you.
