America coming apart at the seams?
Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Another salient factor in America's demise is intolerance of diverse views coupled with a lack of genuine game-changer heroes.
Millions of Americans share the views expressed on this thread about firearms, but opponents of the dreadful laws on guns are pretty muted.
Millions of Republicans recognise know how destructive Donald Trump is, but there is no organised group within the GOP to vigorously oppose him.
Millions of Americans are atheists or freethinking Christians, but there is no powerful lobby to stop the creeping spread of secularism in that country.
Those Right of centre, The NRA, the MAGA crowd and the alt-right fundamentalist Christians are destroying America, and nobody is standing up to them.

Woke is organised, and the politically correct fundamentalists are too. They should be got rid of for opposing free speech, and trying to impose their views on anyone.Whistler wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 11:28 amAnother salient factor in America's demise is intolerance of diverse views coupled with a lack of genuine game-changer heroes.

Unhappily, millions of citizens in the U.S. support having firearms, and that is not going to change soon.
A good start to reducing the weekly violence on the streets in places like Chicago, St. Louis, Philadelphia et al is to confront, not avoid, the issue of black on black violence.

It is legal in the US, Russia, UK, and other countries to privately own a decommissioned tank.

LYM.
I have no problems having citizens owning gun given sensible controls, but having the right to walk down a city street with an assault weapon?
Owning a Canon?
Being certifiable crazy and a long record as a criminal with no background checks?
Do you agree with unfettered gun acccess?

My quote above should indicate that I am against the ordinary citizen owning weapons.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 11:44 am

I have a Canon laser printer. Sorry, I should have declared that to the forum. But I never walk down the street with it and terrify the public.

You are a good citizen and deserve some kind of reward because walking down the street with a Canon printer in your hands might lead to awkward and unfortunate results.

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Perhaps 474 has a canon printer which would explain his inability to distinguish red from salmon pink?

No, my good man, I didn't insult your family at all. YOU talked about gangs (well, "ganmgs" actually) and "Trump and his thugs".Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 9:10 amNow resorting to ionsulting my family is there no depths to which you will go down to , to justify the current AMERICAN situation.Udon Map wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 9:03 amI think that you are receiving a distorted view of the U.S. "Weekly updates" hardly give one an accurate and complete picture. The Americans who chose Trump did so freely. There were several reasons, but being forced to vote for him by gangs was not one of them.Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 6:55 amHAVING HAD relatd to me first hand how a republian gang harrassed e of my cousins for even wishing to put up a sign for an independent , I would state free thinking amercans maybe but free from ganmgs of one party or anothr NO, and that is what Trump and his thugs were / are doing Weekly i get updats and the picture of freedoms and free speech coupled wih gun violence and threats ae doubling . Land of the Free........not any longer
no-one suggested that people did not vote freely what I stated was that factions ( mainly Maga republicans ) will do anything to retain or regain power. Ty thinking outside your little Maga box for once
One time your cousin was harassed for trying to put up a sign. That's not weekly. And to extrapolate from your cousin's one unfortunate incident to such political gangs trying to suppress speech being a significant problem in the U.S. is absurd, as anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with statistics will tell you.

In 1996, the Port Arthur Massacre resulted in 35 deaths, it outraged Australia so much, that there was a radicle change to gun ownership. An arch-conservative, John Howard had the guts to change the laws, for this, he is to be admired.
The right to own a weapon was not affected, it just banned weapons that were over the top. In 1996 there were 3.2 million registered guns in the country, now it is close to 4 million. Mass shootings while rare in Australia pretty much disappeared, military assault weapons banned, high capacity magazines banned, all very sensible updates to gun laws.
The USA can retain Amendment 2, but needs to use good sense to bring Amendment 2 into the current era.

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Nine states, (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York), as well as the District of Columbia, have enacted laws that generally ban the sale, manufacture, and transfer of assault weapons. The states with magazine restrictions (high capacity) are Washington, Vermont, Rhode Island, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Hawaii, Delaware, Connecticut, Colorado, and California.
Some progress is being made but currently there is no federal law restricting the sale, manufacture or possession of assault weapons. There may be some legislation proposed for other states joining those listed above. The United States had a population of around 326,474,000 people. There are an estimated 393 million firearms in the United States, that's about 1.2 guns per person. Of course, not everyone owns a gun and many Americans own several firearms. The hard fact is that sheer number of firearms in the United States presents an overwhelming task of meaningful control. Progress can and will be made but it will be painfully time consuming. Some analysis has shown that the legislated controls in some of the above listed states have not been all that effective. No quick and easy answers I'm afraid.

What chance has sanity got when its up against this
Re: America coming apart at the seams?
WEll said Shado, sadly no matter what the politicans say and others who refuse NOT TO advocate for Federal GUN Control possibly even to amendng the 2nd admendment, far more meaningless deaths will occur before sanity kicks inShado wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 11:15 pmNine states, (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York), as well as the District of Columbia, have enacted laws that generally ban the sale, manufacture, and transfer of assault weapons. The 2nd Amendment doesn't need amending, it needs a different (corrected in my opinion), interpretation.Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 21, 2023, 7:47 amWEll said Shado, sadly no matter what the politicans say and others who refuse NOT TO advocate for Federal GUN Control possibly even to amendng the 2nd admendment, far more meaningless deaths will occur before sanity kicks inShado wrote: ↑April 20, 2023, 11:15 pmNine states, (California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York), as well as the District of Columbia, have enacted laws that generally ban the sale, manufacture, and transfer of assault weapons. Re: America coming apart at the seams?
Liberals share a lot of blame for gang shootings. I was appalled when they outlawed stop and frisk. A gang banger with a bulge under his shirt who cannot be frisked is stupid beyond belief. Background checks are also total failures. I know first hand that a young man with mental problems was able to buy an AR15. Fortunately a small town police officer , against the law, confiscated the gun. The kid was able to sell the gun but the police refused to give it back to him. The kid spent $600 for that rifle and couldn't afford a lawyer to challenge the confiscation. Also there is no logical reason for high capacity magazines. The best home defense weapon is a shotgun. They don't shoot through walls and kill people in the next house or people walking on the street.
Re: America coming apart at the seams?
The GOP, who advocate that arming teachers and all citizens should would eliminate gun violence, are quite the hypocrites. Here are a few places that are gun free zones:
1. The White House
2. The Republican National Convention
3. Republican Town Halls
4. The U.S. Capitol Building
5. Mar-a=Lago
6. Trump National in Jupiter
7. Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach
8. Trump National Doral in Miami
At gun shows in Florida no loaded guns are allowed on the gun show floor and all guns brought to the show by patrons must be left unladed and secured with a zip tie at the security desk.
in Texas loaded weapons have never been allowed on the gun show floor by patrons or vendors.
Guns were also banned during Trump's speech at a NRA Conference in Houston in 2022. And this is the guy who thinks you should be able to bring guns anywhere, just not where he is I guess.
What are the gun right advocates so afraid of? These hypocrites have no issue banning guns at places they frequently visit or own because of safety reasons, but anyplace else, game on.
