Badly made?

"If you have never given blood before you may register at the age of 16 but can only give blood between your 17th and 66th birthday [including on your 66th birthday]. If you attend as a first time donor before you are 17 or after you are 66 we would not be able to accept you."

Plus a lot of other countries won't take ANY English blood because of mad cow disease.

YES BADLY MADE RULES< WHILE I was in Rotary I had the opportunity to discuss this problem with the Chief Medical Officer and we did cme to an agreement that the problem was dire . He discussed it with udon hospitals BLOOD CEntre and they agreed that banning donations just due to age was out-dated and counter productive, so I actually donated on two occasions over the age limit.
However as the Thai Red Cross are in charge nationally that was never carried on and so we are back in the 19th century thinking . My mother gave blood in the UK well over her 80th birthday , all that was done was a quick visible check-up and blood pressure test by the resident doctor and she could give, only once a year but she could give. HERE you are shooed away and never looked at, I hopefully will never need BLOOD as I am O neg

Maybe the local NHS blood transfusion services were doing your mum a favour? Maybe it was a long time ago or before Creutzfeldt–Jakob's and the like made the Englander's blood unpopular. Anyhoo, from what I have posted earlier and trawling the vast expanses of the interwebs, they aren't taking blood donations from anyone over 65 in the UK any more.

But since you're here and not there, I guess you'll need to BYOB. Can't you self-donate? You know, squeeze out a few pints of your own over a year, bag it and keep in the fridge?

I have never seen so much tosh written aboput BLOOD DOnation in the UK it is run by the National Blood Transfusion Service whose aim is to collet blood. ~Nothing else , no favoritism was shown nor demanded , how stupid your statement is . Well considering you ae a prson who believes EVERYTHING you read on the internet perhaps your statistics are in error . No thanks for yuet another silly comment worthy of you , but you cannot self donate, no matter hos convenient that may be for a huge number of reasons one being storage. But ~I am sure if I searched the internet I may find a way to do it .

Not a silly comment at all. You can self-donate, and it's not uncommon. It's called autologous donation and is often used prior to surgery to collect the patient's blood, which, after all, will be the best match.

You were talking about "BLOOD DOnation in the UK". Nothing about limiting your comment to hospitals only.

I believe "everything on the internet" that's the OFFICIAL word on UK blood donations. Note the NHS logo.

There's no such thing as the National Blood Transfusion Service either so regrettably, I can't believe anything that you claim to be fact.

Thanks for that. I hope you didn't go full bore like the other chap and accuse these hospitals of accessory to murder.

As for the UK. maybe blood donations from outside the published age band is allowed due to the rarity of the blood type? For the common and garden sorts from the A, B and AB clans, we don't get the option (and a cup of tea).

OKA National Blood Service has changed its name, but you would not know that, same people different name I checked falling n line with NOT upsetting sowflakes and encouraging more donations from ethnic minorities.

Same deals and same flexibility , unlike others, but also unlike other countries no-one is ever paid if they donate.

Oh, dear, -- this has turned into a bit of a spitting match, hasn't it.

It seems that there once was a National Blood Service in the U.K.: https://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/who-we-are/a-h ... lantation/

It now appears to be part of NHS Blood and Transplant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHS_Blood ... ite_note-3

Happy to be corrected if any of this is incorrect.

You are correct. The UK's National Blood Transfusion Service was created 77 years ago and ceased to exist about 18 years ago.

No spitting here. There's absolutely nothing wrong with bringing clarity to an esteemed elderly member's reminiscences.

No I am sorry as usual an AMERICan take is totally wrong, most Blood collections centres had DOCTORS on hand to check the more elderly donor , meeting the requirements . Something I have NEVER seen here, they would it appears rather run out of a specifi9ed blood group than actually admit their criteris set a couple fo decades ago might be wrong , plus the fact that many foreign western dfonars are probably healthier and probably donated more blood than most Thais .

What are you talking about??? I didn't say anything about blood collection centers having or not having doctors. All I said was that the National Blood Service in the U.K. appears to have been absorbed into NHS Blood and Transplant.

KP
My posts for this subject are usually requests for blood donations needed by someone who could be in dire straits. All I every get out of you is negativity about the process and most times how they do it in the good olde UK. I am positive the individual who is in need of the donation here in Thailand couldn't give a nonsense
Its time that you add something positive , why, because one day the request for a donation maybe scheduled for yourself.

Everytime an article is posted about Blood Donations here in Thailand guess who comes out of the woodwork to whine and bitch about the process?
Man if you have anything positive to post by all means attempt to try and type an opinion. I am still looking up words such as specifi9ed, criteris, dfonars, sowflakes, IUn, aboput, collet, ae a prson, yuet, hos, cme...
