95-year woman tasered by police in Australia
The victim who is 95 and using a walker was tasered by a policeman in New South Wales. Apparently the lady, who is not in critical care, was carrying a knife and slowly advancing toward the officer. Subsequently, the officer has been suspended.

Not critical, great. All's well that ends well..
Not critical my eye, she is in a coma and getting end of life treatment.

I believe the officer has only RECENTLY been suspended, about 6 days after the event where he was only 'stood down, with pay'. The official statement by the NSW top cop last Thursday was pretty painful to watch.

Yes, she is in critical care. I did not review the sentence before posting. It is really difficult to understand the thinking of this veteran officer. He needs to give his head a shake. Furthermore, he should be fired.

I disagree that she was lucky, in particular, if she is on life support. Furthermore, she should not have been tasered in the first place.

None of us were there to see the situation unfold. Therefore I and others cannot pronounce whether the Officer was in his right or not to deploy his taser.
It is just another story until the time that ALL the information is released.

We don't need to be there to pass an OPINION that it should not take two armed police officers, one of them identified as being experienced, to assist the care home staff in placating and disarming a very old lady with one hand on her walking frame while holding a knife in the other in the wee small hours without resorting to electrocuting her. For example, they could have asked the care home staff to play Vera Lynn's "We'll meet again" over the tannoy and together with the staff, crooned her into a peaceful denouement.
You will undoubtedly beg to differ which is your prerogative.

100% with tam on this one. A fit young bloke wielding a knife in a public place, yep. A frail 95 year old with dementia, under no circumstances, as for being shot!

Re: 95-year woman tasered by police in Australia
Let me get this right, a 95 year old frail lady with dementia in a zimmer frame hanging on with one hand while the other hand holds a steak knife requires a taser to dissarm her??? Are you real??? Thankfully the officer was releived of his dutys, while the old lady is in a coma receiving end of life treatment....
Re: 95-year woman tasered by police in Australia
was the zimmer frame one of those sporty models with mag wheels and a turbo charged V8. Pretty damned hard to keep up with those ones.

The Police Commissioner stated
"Clare Nowland, the aged care resident who was Tasered by a police officer in Cooma last week, remains in a “heavy sleep”" Havent seen the word "Coma"
"Webb also defended her decision not to watch footage of the incident from body-worn cameras. She said it was important to watch the footage “in the context of all the other statements and evidence”.“It may be the case in the future where I have to make a determination based on a brief of evidence, without being tainted by having seen a part of the brief without context,” Webb said. “It’s important that we follow a process. I will make my determination impartially.”
The Commissioner is doing the right move and waiting for all the information to be gathered, so no knee jerking reactions

Re: 95-year woman tasered by police in Australia
Doodoo, the reports stated she was drifting in and out of consciousness. Not sleeping, not resting. When you go unconscious that is the definition of a coma, although admittedly she seems to be floating in and out of that state.
Police charges occur after a process of gathering and acting on evidence. I would suggest that Webb handled this very poorly. She could simply have stated it would be inappropriate to comment while a formal investigation was underway.

Re: 95-year woman tasered by police in Australia
I guess things have just got a lot more serious for Snr Constable White.
![Think :-k](./images/smilies/eusa_think.gif)
According to (an unreliable source) Mr White has previous form for violence. An elderly great-grandmother allegedly tasered by police during an incident at a Cooma nursing home last week has died, NSW Police have confirmed.
Clare Nowland, 95, was hospitalised in a critical condition after falling and fracturing her skull during the incident with officers at Yallambee Lodge last Wednesday.
