What I would like to know is where was all the snow and ice when the trees were growing, and were they evergreen or deciduous?
Did the earth slip on its axis, maybe Thailand was the North pole and Peru the South Pole.
Lots of Fossil fuel under Greenland, according to Google.
Climate Change? As KP said, just a cycle, exacerbated by the 8 billion earth inhabitants.
If, as the so called experts are predicting is true, nothing can be done.
By 2030, according to Google, half the world will be in poverty, they will be more concerned about where their next meal is coming from, they won't give a sh*t about Climate Change.
So jus sit back and let it roll.
PS. Mersea Island in Essex UK is still accessable by the Causeway.

https://www.worldbank.org/en/events/201 ... ad-to-2030

"This two-day preparatory conference will take a look at the progress made on SDG 1, which calls for ending extreme poverty by 2030. The outcomes from this conference will be used as inputs in preparation for the 2017 UN High Level Political Forum to be held in July."

It appears that the World Food Bank is working to remove world poverty by 2030 Now, will it happen?

Unlike some people, I don't carry poverty projections in my head so I have to reference what's available. If you are saying your Google doesn't match my Google, that's half of the problem, let's look until we can find a match for my brain set.
Let's start at home shall we, Kut Chap, I would say pretty typical of Thailand's Rural life, I see poverty all around me, Climate Change? Not on the Radar, No1 feed the family.
Could that be an accurate reflection of the Real World throughout SE Asia, Africa, China, South America or have I got that wrong too?
Personally, I have an open mind about most things, I certainly don't get up in the morning and think, What can I do to mitigate Climate Change? Most civilized people do it anyway.

Fires or cattle might have been the case if the Vikings went to America (and Greenland) 450,000 to 800,000 years ago.

Shado is 100% correct, KP is 100% wrong. Greenland was not covered in trees when the Vikings arrived, it was much as it is now and that was around 1000 years ago.

Sorry, have to correct this. I also thought no trees in Greenland in viking times, but there were, found several scientific articles on pollen analysis that at least Birch trees existed. The Vikings chopped them alldown, and grazing sheep stopped regeneration. When the medieval warm period started cooling off, the vikings didn't have anything left to burn. Any surviving trees were quiclky chopped down, hence another reason the settlement died out. Google Greenland trees.org or look for scientific papers on pollen analysis.

No, I'm saying google - whoever's google - doesn't say that half the world will be in poverty by 2030.

If climate change/global warming continues at the current pace, poverty will be the least of the problem for many around the world. But that will be some time after 2030.

Now, that's simply not true. Until we started requiring approval for all of your posts, they were invariably negative, putting down everyone and everything as not measuring up to your standards. If you had apologized, that would have been approved, as this post was.

Mentioning people by name is not the problem, -- rather, it's your inability to mention people in anything other than a disrespectful and condescending manner.

In any case, back to the thread topic, Climate Change, please.

Apologies Sir, my quick Google search was not analyzed closely enough, a more detailed read reveals that at this moment in time 1billion people live in poverty, earning less than a dollar a day. 2030 figures are pure speculation by so called experts.

Regardless, the point I was making is that a vast amount of people throughout the world have more immediate problems to deal with than worry about something that we may feel the effects of in 30 years time.

Good information Rick, there are also trees in Greenland today, in recent centuries these species have been replanted so Greenland is much the same as it was 1000 years ago, that was my statement.

KP said Greenland was covered in trees, not true at all, then as now much is/was covered in ice to an everage thickness of 1500 metres.

Was Greenland covered in trees at one point?,

"The DNA is proof that sometime between 450,000 and 800,000 years ago, much of Greenland was especially green and covered in a boreal forest that was home to alder, spruce and pine trees, as well as insects such as butterflies and beetles"

https://www.livescience.com/7331-ancien ... %20beetles.

I wasnt there but I heard that this may be fact.

You should ask KP how it was, he claimed Greenland was covered in trees.....

Damn, I had no idea he was that old.

If it wasn't covered in Trees where did all that Fossil Fuel come from?

It was not covered in trees when the Vikings arrived 1000 years ago. Oil is produced after millions of years of decomposition of vegetable matter, so no doubt Greenland over the Eon's was once covered in trees. I have some doubt the vikings were there at the time.

"In the leading theory, dead organic material accumulates on the bottom of oceans, riverbeds or swamps, mixing with mud and sand. Over time, more sediment piles on top and the resulting heat and pressure transforms the organic layer into a dark and waxy substance known as kerogen.

Left alone, the kerogen molecules eventually crack, breaking up into shorter and lighter molecules composed almost solely of carbon and hydrogen atoms. Depending on how liquid or gaseous this mixture is, it will turn into either petroleum or natural gas.

So how long does this process take?

Scientists aren't really sure, but they figure it's probably on the order of hundreds of thousands of years."

Well, another lecture on the obvious, I think the origin of Fossil fuel was taught in Primary School. I'm sure KP didn't think Greenland was carpeted with Trees 1000 years ago, no one can be that stupid surely.

Saying it again, as most ignored it last time
Or, perhaps they just see it differently.
I would be interested in KP pointing out a single cycle over the past 50 million years that has been as severe, and come on so rapidly, as climate change over the past 100 years.
You might well be inteestded, a small fact when the vikings went to america, Greenland was coveed in trees, now since then it has lost all its forests, explain that , certainly colder. THat is at least in the last 5/6 thousand years, I asm noy going to check each and every year just to satisfy your need, bu simp-l;y put why do towns in the UK have designated flood plains, because they know it has flooded before The same can be said about volcanos and the fall oput from them or earthquakes subject top tectonic plate movement , Mothe nature is always upseting thje status quo, Our so-called highly intelligene, tries to contro it and fails miserably each and every time . Ice ages have come and gone, warming has come and gone does not take a history buff to realise that just using common-sense and educated guesses . But i all honesty by the time we know it is too late none of us on here will be around to notice the difference anyway .
