Trooping the Colour

Post by Drunk Monkey » June 17, 2023, 8:16 pm

Surprised some of our esteemed members (both Brit and nations under the UKs wing) have not posted to wish K ing Charles Happy Birthday which incorporates the fantastic event of Trooping the Colour.

DM has been fixated on this marvelous day in which Great Britain showed just how its done... and so much more enjoyable than the ongoing cricket game.

The Princess of Wales stunning as ever and the young royals all involved especially cheeky chappy Louis with a salute on the balcony.

For those that missed any of the action including our Commonwealth friends from Australia who seem to have taken to Charles with great love here is the condensed 3 hour coverage.

GOD SAVE THE K ING

Saw it once when I lives in London in the 70's. It is indeed magnificent.

As for Chuck......nah!

If memory serves my right, it started with Queen Vicky and is close to her birthday, they kept that timing for all subsequent monarchs, Chucks birthday is in November being my junior by 4 months.

These are nice traditions to bring people together and reflect on their nations, so much better than crude display of Tanks, troops and ICBMs we observe in other countries.

The date irrelevance is OK, at least it does not change with the change of head of state. After all, the USA celebrates Colunbus Day even thought that utter swine and murderer never set foot in the country.

Tam, have you ever had a look at the real facts about Columbus. He was a murderous, syphalitic brute who died in obscurity as the Royal Houseof Spain was so appalled at his behaviour that he was banned in the palace.

Ripping down the statues in his case probably is justified. He never set foot on American soil in any event.

Pretty sure he did set foot on US soil Whizza alas I never rated Columbus even though Peter Faulk played the character well , i much preferred Kojak.

Back on topic ... i adored Kates green ensemble and even Camila scrubbed up well.

Loads of short highlight vids on YT for those wishing to partake.

Agree tam, the people of Russia should never have pulled down uncle Stalin's statues
nor the people of Italy toppling Mussolini's
nor Iraq, Sadam
nor Libya, Gaddafi
nor Romania, Ceaușescus
etc, etc.

Revising history is not a crime, not everything is cancel culture, just a convenient little catchphrase for those that are incapable of looking at things in perspective. I don't agree if it is the result of Presentism, but if it addresses people like Columbus, I have no problem cancelling that murderous thug's image.

Dont tear down statues, just replace the heads with whoever is in favour at the time, same as the Romans did. saves a fortune on sculptures and the artist only has to be good at heads

Although the concept of Presentism has recently gotten more bandwidth, it has been around a long time as events are always being viewed in someone else's 'present'. Nowadays, it's a convenient little catchphrase for woke.

If you want to start with Columbus that's fine but regardless, it's still the thin edge of the wedge and once you've started, where would you stop? I don't see any clearer perspective by eliminating anyone from history, no matter how odious or evil. Reviewing and revising history, yes but editing people out, no. Because then you would also be editing out their atrocities and what good does that serve?

Meanwhile, back on topic: they got better weather and the RAF fly pasts that were denied on the late Queen's special day were impressive. The last one with 'CR' formation certainly got everyone, including the balcony's attention.

Indeed the weather was kinder for the trooping than it was the recent coronation at which most of the fly past was deemed too risky and unsafe... twas an impressive spectacle yesterday though... to add looking a the BP balcony it seems Charles is most certainly trimming down the royal family with just a few working members on parade ... HnM not even invited wasnt a shock really.

Nope DM he never set foot on the North American continent.
However, he did set foot on the Bahamas, which is part of the North American continent:

Are there 3 or 23 countries in North America?

North America is the third-largest continent in the world, covering an area of 24.5 million square kilometers. It comprises 23 countries, as well as dependencies, ranging from the Arctic Circle in the north to the Panama Canal in the south.' - wiki

Princess Anne as always looked elegant.

That's true, but you wrote, ' Nope DM he never set foot on the North American continent.' Columbus did set foot on the North American continent.

To be really technical, America is not a country, it's the United States of America.
