Supreme Court Rules Biden Cannot Cancel Student Loan Debt
Re: The U.S. Supreme Court Bans the Use of Race in College Admissions
See the supreme Court in the USA scoring another home goal, banning affirmative action by Universities, this action assisted in propelling at least TWO Supreme Court judges to their current position and GOD BLESS the Court again for efusing to allow a generation of youngsters forgiveness of part of their student loans while many members of Congress and at least one person in the supreme Court kept their businesses alive due to PPP, but their hypocrisy knows no boundaries it seems.
Re: The U.S. Supreme Court Bans the Use of Race in College Admissions
The question that the Supreme Court was deciding was not whether or not lots of Members of Congress are hypocrites. We can agree that they are. The question that the Court was deciding was whether the President has the legal authority to forgive student loans. Different question. Different branch of government.Khun Paul wrote: ↑July 1, 2023, 8:53 am. . . Liberal presidents are allowed to appoint liberal justices. Conservative presidents are allowed to appoint conservative justices. That's the it's designed to work. Presidents can appoint justices who have views similar to their own.Khun Paul wrote: ↑July 1, 2023, 10:57 amMade by REPUBLICAN APPOINTEES . The role of the Supreme Court is not to make policy that benefits anyone in particular. The role is to interpret laws vis-à-vis the Constitution.Khun Paul wrote: ↑July 1, 2023, 5:42 pmSo basically bugger all to do with upholding the law for the GENERAL PUBLIC just another load of licksp[ittles to further invoke their friendly POTUS views, how UN-DEMOCRATIC , must be a great boon to the public tyo know that in actuality the supeme Court JUStces do not give a damn about the vast majority of the American Public.

Forgiving student loans is so wrong on many different points. That is truly a can of worms. The bottom line is that they borrowed the money and they must pay it back. Many students simply wanted to enjoy being a student and gave no thought that they would ever have to pay that money back.Udon Map wrote: ↑July 1, 2023, 10:49 amThe question that the Supreme Court was deciding was not whether or not lots of Members of Congress are hypocrites. Here here. Forgiving the loans shits all over us that paid cash for our children education's. To me it's about like someone running up 120k in credit card debt then claiming bankruptcy. The loan forgiveness would come without a ding on their credit history and funded by taxpayers.glalt wrote: ↑July 2, 2023, 12:40 pmForgiving student loans is so wrong on many different points. Any education reform that includes taxpayer funds needs a bit more of a plan. My take is Biden was buying votes for 2024 with my money.

That's where I think that you may be missing the point. It's up to Congress to pass laws that benefit the populace. The Supreme Court doesn't make policy, it determines whether the laws that Congress or state legislatures pass are consistent with the principles set out in the Constitution, or whether another branch of government has exceeded its COnstitutional authority.Khun Paul wrote: ↑July 2, 2023, 10:19 amTHERE speaks a born bred true American sucked into the hype surrounding the Supreme Court despie recent rulings affecting millions and overtun decodes old laws and you tell me they nterpret the law ......harking back o a constitution written in the late 1700's, barely updated to reflect modern times or living but still having such a detrimental impact on many people and it is THESE rules and laws they interpret ............amazing surprised the States have survived that long !Udon Map wrote: ↑July 1, 2023, 6:22 pmThe role of the Supreme Court is not to make policy that benefits anyone in particular. Of course there are Supreme Court decisions that hurt some, even many, people. What the Court decided in this case was that the President does not have the authority to cancel student debt by Executive Order, thereby incurring a substantial expense for the taxpayers. Try reading the decision, and you'll see what I mean. Here's a link to it: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/2 ... 6_nmip.pdf

It would be more to the issue of this thread if you and Khun Paul start a thread concerning the Supreme Court in the U.S.A., and its recent decision on student loans. However your remarks about the Supreme Court and other branches of the U.S. Government are useful and help to clarify who can do what and why.Udon Map wrote: ↑July 2, 2023, 4:25 pmThat's where I think that you may be missing the point. Re: Supreme Court Rules Biden Cannot Cancel Student Loan Debt
don't worry, Biden has his legal beagles trying to find a potential loophole to do the debt forgiveness by publishing new rules modifying the Higher Education Act from the mid-60's. This would give the Secretary of Education the authority to amend, modify or cancel any debts. I'm sure that too will be challenged in court since it once again cuts Congress out of the picture in obligating the Federal Government to pay upwards of 440 billion in forgiven debts.

Largely agree but if the law was revised to penalize their credit scores, would the tax burden be more palatable? I mean everyone pays their taxes and everyone's credit is shot already so that should even the field, no?Potamoi wrote: ↑July 2, 2023, 1:09 pmHere here.
