Re: News Sources
Recycling generated about 1,550kg of carbon dioxide for every tonne of plastic recycled. The biggest polluter, incineration, churned out 6,330kg of CO2 per tonne of plastic.

Just interested in how they have got the figure of 6330kg of CO2 from 1000kg
Modeling charcoal as 100% carbon (which is close to the case), then the same combustion constants apply as for carbon.
So 1 kg of carbon generates 3.66 kg of CO2.

Re: News Sources
You just love cherry picking quotes, in this case quoting the amount of CO2 generated by recycling, makes recycling sound like a bad idea.noosard wrote: ↑July 10, 2023, 1:15 pmRecycling generated about 1,550kg of carbon dioxide for every tonne of plastic recycled. Why not include this quote from the article
Plastics made using fossil fuels generated more than double the emissions of recycled plastic, the report said.

Re: News Sources
No I justed pick a possible mistake in their article or straight out propaganda
Re: News Sources
The gist of this story is the growing, some say excessive use of plastics. As for the figures quoted, they were from a reliable source. I am sure they would appreciate an email from yourself pointing out they are wrong

Re: News Sources
What are you saying the figures are correct or is it a mistake
If so how many more are there in this story
or have they found a new way in creating mass

Re: News Sources
Noo, even if I understood your garbled post, I would probably not answer. The News Limited article was an over embellished piece of sensationalism, plain and simple. Nuff said

But you did reply
but not with an answer to the question of where the new mass has come from

'where the new mass has come from'
can any member on here understand what this means?

Re: News Sources
Really
Carbon mass of approx 12
Oxygen mass of 16
CO2 mass of 12 +16+16 = 44
So if C=12 O= C+1/3C
CO2 = 3C+2/3C
So 1000kg of Carbon burnt produces 3.66 tons of CO2 not the 6.33 tons as the article suggests
And further wrong is that 1000kg of plastic is not made up of just carbon, so being burnt would produce even less CO2

Re: News Sources
I find myself constantly looking for ways to watch and listen to current event discussion without the main stream media biased bites. Today I enjoyed this interview/discussion on Lex Fridman's long form podcast:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xz8i90Hp2A
Saagar Enjeti is a very well read and clever conservative journalist partnered with Krystal Ball (her real name) taking the more liberal side on the political news and opinion series called "Breaking Points". I watch or listen to their YouTube channel however they are also on Spotify and other podcast locations.
https://www.youtube.com/@breakingpoints/videos
Journalist Ryan Grim and culture writer Emily Jashinsky co-host a show called "Counter Points" on Wednesdays and Fridays featured on the same YouTube channel.
Of course I don't agree with some of the opinions but the thing most evident about Breaking Points and Counter Points in my eyes are how the hosts can make their opposing points while being respectful to each other. Other curious forum members may also enjoy the interview and links from these sources.
I for one would watch White House briefings more often if Saagar or any of the other three were there asking intelligent and thoughtful questions rather than the MSM crews asking the same worn questions with different mouths to get their evening news sound bites.
Here are the time markers for this Lex episode:
0:00 - Introduction
5:06 - Why Trump won
10:07 - Book recommendations
13:44 - History of wokeism
21:13 - History of Scots-Irish
27:51 - Biden
