Three Dead in Auckland Shooting

In a tragic incident two innocent people and the gunman are dead in a shooting in Auckland, New Zealand. A number of others were injured in the incident:

' A gunman stormed a downtown construction site in New Zealand’s largest city on Thursday, killing two and wounding five as the nation prepared to host games in the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament.

Police said the 24-year-old shooter was also dead. He was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet when he entered the downtown Auckland building site at about 7.20 am.

Those killed were two civilians. His other victims include a police officer who rushed to the site and was gravely wounded.

The gunman was later identified as Matu Tangi Matua Reid, who had worked at the construction site, police said. Reid was serving a sentence of five months’ home detention for domestic violence charges, handed down in the Auckland District Court on March 28.

He had approval to travel from his home in South Auckland to the central city building site. His home detention sentence was monitored via an ankle bracelet...Police said Reid did not possess a licence to have a gun.
