Traffic lights @Global north went out during a very wet early school run some time before 7:30. They were ok 15 minutes earlier but Wearsai was totally gridlocked before the outage as the Beemer and Merc crowd opted to use their chauffeurs to get their dim progeny to Don Bosco.Total gridlock so I detoured via the Sam Phrao and Nong Sai roads, aka the bush ring road.

Of course there were NO cops working the rush-hour traffic lights ANYWHERE.

Well done you, but having lived in Thailand this long you should be aware that if one doesn't see something personally, it didn't exist/never happened. For example, the police didn't see the rain on Udondutsadi @ Udon Cristian or the broken traffic lights on the east ring so for them, it never happened. Ergo, I wasn't in the "downtown core" (nearer the police station?) so I'll just have to take your word for it.

A few weeks later she was in the sala when a big storm hit and after a while, she walked into the house and announced "fon tok, cat cat, dog dog".

A good friend of mine, RIP, always called the area where I live the high desert. We are a thousand feet above sea level. We have no flooding problems. During the huge floods years ago, the price of land in this area spiked. Bangkok people were paying stupid prices for land up here. Land prices have not gone back down. The geography is kind of strange. There are no mountains within ten kilometers of us. It is just flat land.

I was in Udon during a very heavy rain. I had recently bought a 4X4 pickup. The water had both lanes of the road flooded. The car ahead of me apparently died and NO one in the other lane would allow me to change lanes. I put the truck in 4 wheel drive and passed the stalled car on the median strip. I was happy to have a 4X4.

My ex- (that bitch...but I'm not bitter) used to explain all sorts of things away with her, "Sorry 'bout that, sometime have to be like that." House fires, car accidents, floods, unpaid bills, all my single malts disappearing...

So, as some may have heard or read, Udon Thani is among a handful of provinces that the TMD has predicted will endure scorchers. Wear a hat, slather on the SPF+50 and get them air conditioners serviced!

Looks like the seasonal 'mango rains' never got a look-in this year?
