I had a 1 year DL back in the day then a couple of 2 years then a 5 then went to renew in December 2021 and was issued a 2 year - never had an O visa.
Will renew on Friday and will advise of the outcome of its a 2 or 5 year, fingers crossed for the latter

FWIW if Friday is not just after your birthday wait until just after your birthday to renew as you will get over 360 days extra.
The rules are quite simple, though as usual they may not always be followed.
The rules are that 1 year visas & visas that allow for 1 year extensions are required for a 5 year permanent license
Tourist and shorter visas (the Elite visa is classed as a tourist visa despite the 1 year entry given) and extensions only get the 2 year temporary license
