NHS allowed a nurse to murder infants for three years

Post by tamada » August 25, 2023, 12:18 pm

Maybe that's the way the media should be tag lining the story about the English nurse who was recently found guilty of murdering 7 newborns, attempted murder of 6 more and jailed for life.

The NHS has an awful lot to answer for here. I hope the life-sentence conferred on the murderer doesn't prevent some serious blood-letting and change in NHS oversight and management of all these 'trusts'.

My sister was forced to resign when she worked at an NHS trust in England where she was making noises about corrupt practices by the manager. This was before whistle-blowers and better ways of filing complaints without going through a corrupt chain of local authority. Five years later, my father’s death was hastened under the improper care of staff at an NHS hospital. The Scottish health ombudsman agreed after investigating our complaint, people were fired and procedures audited and changed. When my mother was in palliative care at the same establishment 4 years later, she couldn't compliment the staff enough on their care and attention.

Seems to me that there's a broad sentiment in the UK media against calling out anything bad or deleterious when it comes to their 'beloved' NHS. Ever since Bojo mandated that it be a significant centrepiece and symbol of national pride in the London Olympics celebrations; a serious WTF? moment in my view, their questionable ethics, mismanagement, bad planning and waste of taxpayer's money goes on. Be it extended appointment waiting times, doctors quitting or the bad joke of all those empty and unused Nightingale hospitals during Covid, it's obviously not for purpose and has been for a long time already.

The only time we see significant media interest is when various Tory leaders have to deny that it plans to sell off their 'beloved' institution to private interests. Maybe it should?

In days of yore, Hospitals were run by Medical staff nominally a Matron and a Senior Doctor with a small admin staff to run the admin.
Get rid of the Matron install CIVILIANS ( bean counters ) and what have you got, mis-management, corruption .
Solve the problem bring back Matron and Medical Staff in charge.

More sad, bad news. Looks like even the odd 'matron' or 'senior doctor' can get it unforgivably wrong.

Sepsis was the simple, one-word cause noted on my father's death certificate (no mention of the lack of professional care and medical attention that allowed it to happen).

Meanwhile, over in Birmingham...

"An NHS investigation has reportedly found three suspicious deaths of children at a hospital where a nurse has been arrested on suspicion of poisoning.

‌The review into unexpected deaths and deteriorations at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, which houses Britain’s largest paediatric intensive care unit, stretches back to January 2022.

It was launched after colleagues raised concerns when a child deteriorated on May 18 last year and died the next day. ..."
