An affidavit (/ˌæfɪˈdeɪvɪt/ ⓘ AF-ih-DAY-vit; Medieval Latin for "he has declared under oath") is a written statement voluntarily made by an affiant or deponent under an oath or affirmation which is administered by a person who is authorized to do so by law. Such a statement is witnessed as to the authenticity of the affiant's signature by a taker of oaths, such as a notary public or commissioner of oaths. An affidavit is a type of verified statement or showing, or in other words, it contains a verification, which means that it is made under oath on penalty of perjury, and this serves as evidence for its veracity and is required in court proceedings.

The notary is verifying the signature, not the truthfulness of the affidavit. The affidavit is a sworn statement. Lying on an affidavit is perjury. I hate to disagree with the esteemed CG but she is incorrect. Bottom line is they do not want to issue affidavits. As stated by someone they are trying to move as many transactions to the internet as possible. Why did she indicate she would like to see more outreach when the goal is to have no need for outreach.

because face-to-face feedback is one way to determine if those fancy dan automated processes work for their US citizen customers.. Also mentioned were those lacking the computer savvy to utilize these shiny new automated processes...

So the CG reports back to Washington that the push-back in Isaan to increasing the roll-out of online support and downsizing of ACS outreach and wardens is insignificant and can continue in line with the technological advances and fiscal realities of a rapidly changing world.

I am also confident that in the next 5 years or so, in lieu of the human touch anywhere in their bureaucracy, AI will be providing everything that it thinks you need.

ah, they'll always have the need to go out among the unwashed masses. Generally at the end of the fiscal year when they literally have money to throw away. A trip to a number of cities then is not beyond the realm of possibility..

She did indicate that the Department of State back in Washington would love to automate anything possible. Why have an American Consular Officer doing that final 5 minute interview right there in Bangkok when they could pay one to be in a booth in Washington DC doing it by a video conference.. State does claim that each American employee overseas costs about a million bucks..

I recently rewed my US passport by mail. It was indeed a nightmare. Altogether it took about two months. The previous renewal was done in Khon Kaen. It was quick and easy. Unfortunately the embassy had no scheduled outreach and couldn't tell me if or when there would be another. At one time the US Embassy was very efficient and helpful. That time has passed. Now there are a lot of hoops to jump through and strict rules. They are no longer helpful.
