Re: Yes it really happened
The 1913 Grey Cup was a bit of a dud as the Hamilton Tigers hammered Toronto Parkdale, 44-2.
As compensation, here is a short video from the first Grey Cup game in 1909, which was won by the Varsity Blues.
Dr. Griffiths is talking about the Ottawa Rough Riders more than he is about Parkdale. Varsity had to defeat Ottawa to qualify for the Grey Cup. An interesting side note about the Rough Riders is that they were coached by hockey legend, individual Clancy.

The differences
By definition, a hurricane is a tropical storm with winds above 74 miles per hour (119 kilometers per hour). The systems occur all over the world. In the Western Atlantic and Eastern Pacific Oceans, they are called hurricanes. In the Indian Ocean and South Pacific, they are called cyclones and in the Western Pacific, they are called typhoons.
Considered the worst hurricane
The United States as we know it was just a gleam in George Washington's eye when the Great Hurricane of 1780 blasted its way through the Caribbean, killing approximately 22,000 people. Among the dead were British and American soldiers who had been skirmishing in warships scattered throughout the region as part of the Revolutionary War.
While there isn't much data on record regarding the hurricane's speed or rainfall, what we do know is that the storm bombarded several Caribbean islands, including Barbados, Martinique and St. Lucia over six days in October. One local observer wrote that the hurricane stripped bark off of trees, which has caused some to speculate the winds must have topped 200 miles per hour (320 kilometers per hour). This massive storm is considered the deadliest hurricane of all time.

Re: Yes it really happened
Did the death toll of the Great Hurricane top the 300,000 who died as a result of the Bhola Cyclone in Bangladesh in 1970?

"Considered the worst hurricane"
No, because one statement is regarding the death toll from a hurricane while the other is referring to death toll from a cyclone
Hope this helps

Re: Yes it really happened
Well now I am even more confused, Dd.
Didn't you just tell us 3 posts earlier that a hurricane and a cyclone are the same thing - save for where they occur.

Re: Yes it really happened
I will leave this with you.
If they were the same then why do they have different names, hurricane, cyclone?
Once again if you wish to know the definitive answer, Google can provide help.
Hope this helps Jacko

That's a great question, Dd - the answer to which I am certain is of wider interest to the UM readership.
Given you first raised the issue, perhaps you could oblige by seeking out the answer, and reporting back asap.
If you need help, please get back to me - but not for a few hours, as I am heading out now for a few cleansing ales.

I assumed your question was rhetorical, Dd.
Now, are you any closer to answering my question?
My offer of help still stands.

Re: Yes it really happened
Yes, it really happened on 5 December 1914. The Toronto Argonauts won their first Grey Cup with a 14-2 victory over the Varsity Blues in front of more than ten thousand fans. Subsequently, the University of Toronto opened its trophy showcase and let the Argos have the Cup. The Boatmen set a record in futility by only making one of seven field goal attempts. The Toronto defence was at its best in the last quarter. Varsity had the ball on the Argo two yard line on third down. The last down try was close as a pile-up of about 20 players ensued when the referee blew his whistle. The ref knelt down and had enough room to open his hand between the goal line and the ball. Varsity failed to score and the Double Blue won the game.

Most are in China
The Bang Na Expressway, in Thailand, is one of the largest bridges in the world. Bang Na Expressway, Thailand (54,000 Meters)
The Bang Na Expressway in Thailand is the world's seventh longest bridge, with a total length of 54,000 meters. Prior to 2010, it was the longest bridge in the world. The bridge does not cross a body of water but instead is an elevated section of the National Highway. At one point the expressway does cross a river. However, for the most part it is a viaduct built above land.
Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge, China (164,800 Meters)
The Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge, on the Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway in China, is the longest bridge in the world. It covers a total distance of 164,800 meters, which is around 102.4 miles. Ten thousand contractors took four years to complete the construction of the Danyang-Kunshan, which was finished in 2010. The railway began operation in 2011. In the same year, this bridge was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Re: Yes it really happened
The Hamilton Tigers won the 1915 Grey Cup with a 13-7 victory over the Toronto Rowing and Athletic Association, 13-7. There was a near on-field riot at the end of the game owing to a number of controversial calls by the referee, Reddy Dixon, a former player for the Tigers and Hamilton native. All of these calls went in favour of Hamilton. At the final whistle, the crowd surged onto the field wanting to pummel Dixon. Police had to use their batons to keep the mob away from him.
Both teams punted 36 times, a Grey Cup record.

i wanted to help. Besides most of these moments are from awhile ago rather than the current season; therefore, it seemed more fitting to have them here in 'Yes it really happened'.

Soviet aircraft and Vodka
By 1962, around 20 Tu-22s have already been produced even though they were still technically being used for testing. A total of 311 Tu-22s were built but around 70 of those were lost due to accidents. Bad design aside, it was theorized that having only a single pilot may have caused some of these crashes.
After over 30 years of operations, more than 40 crew members have lost their lives, earning the Tu-22 the nickname of “Man-Eater”. There was one thing that worked flawlessly on the Tu-22 though – it ran on 52 gallons of vodka.
Booze Cruise
The comfort level of the crew onboard is important, so having an air-conditioned cockpit is seen as a necessity. Its AC was simple: take hot air from the engine compressor and run it through a tank mixed with 60% distilled water and 40% ethanol.
The alcohol mixture would then absorb the heat and evaporate at 10 gallons per hour of flight, giving cool air inside the cockpit. Upon landing, any leftover vodka would then be drained and distributed between the flight and ground crews. You can’t get any more Soviet than this!

Re: Yes it really happened
Owing to the First World War, no Grey Cups were contested between 1916 and 1919. However, the players were back on 3 December 1920. The Varsity Blues won their fourth Grey Cup with a 16-3 victory over the Toronto Argonauts before 10,088 fans at Varsity Stadium. The Cup had been forgotten in a vault in the war years, and it was fortunate the Cup was recovered in time for the game.
