Re: Cricket 2023
Myself, along with many other people were instructed to use the KISS method when addressing a situation, ie 'Keep it simple silly or Keep it simple stupid'. I did not reach the glory heights of tertiary education status, so I use the vernacular.
Former Oz PM John Howard when Parliament was sitting, would throw out a word or two that parliament members would be scrambling the collins or macquarie dictionaries to find the meaning.
Unfortunately Tam, you have failed in my estimation of down to earth KISS methods, although I will continue to read your posts, so please keep posting.

Yes JS quite true in fact. On the Speakers right, members had the nouse to reach for the meanings. Whereas those on the left of the Speaker, would be in bewilderment and did not think 'we better look those words up' otherwise we would look stupid and they were.
It took the labor party to come to terms with those words and after 4? elections finally defeated the coalition, but they had a go 4 times until victory.

Congratulations to Oz on a great victory in the only sport that they're any good at these days

We're bloody good at footy mate. Unbeatable at Aussie rules. So that covers cricket and footy. What other sports are there ?

Olympics next year. Look at the past results and guess what is a likely result. Football particularly women's, cycling, swimming, netball, sailing, diving, golf, hockey. Both NZ and Australia always punch well above their weight. Both forms of rugby are seeing a dip, but historically pretty handy in these sports too. Paraplegic sports quite outstanding.
But taa for the sour grapes.

I understand that Chuck III will not be handing out any gongs to the MCC players Jan 1, just a rumour at this stage. 55.

Re: Cricket 2023
Not even a Participation Medal ?
Re: Cricket 2023
Medals are made out of metals, not soft putty.
I can see the UK athletes in Paris next year following their lead.
Running... Backwards
High jump... Saying Hi and jumping back into locker room
Athletics... Back flip
Cycling.... First time the bike has no forward gears, but three stage reverse.
Boxing.. Hide in a cardboard carton
Yachting.... Sheet themselves
Basket ball... Hooping cough
Pigeon keeping... World champions
Rowing,....total cox.up
Ferret keeping... Cousins of pigeon fanciers
Synchronised aquatics... Mass drowning
Pentathalon.. Ale drinking, darts, cod and chip eating, sky watching and dog waliking
Etc, etc

That sums up the entire Inglish sporting community. After all, they invented or stole most sports and have never excelled in many of them on a continuing basis.Whistler wrote: ↑November 20, 2023, 9:10 pmMedals are made out of metals, not soft putty.

I love a sunburnt country
A land of sweeping plains
Of rugged mountain ranges
Of droughts and flooding rains
I love her far horizons
I love her cruel sea
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me
Certainly not boring

Not as pretty pretty as so many gorgeous and ancient cities, towns, villages in Britain, that I also love, but different

Re: Cricket 2023
If only the Murray Cod were as easy as the colonials.
Serious cricket question. Is Travis Head the best cricketer/batsmen in the world at the moment? Had a good couple of finals in the 50 over and test formats.

Re: Cricket 2023
Never really rated Head before the final where he had a great knock. In spite of their loss, I'd still put a few of the Indians ahead of him.
Not sure how good this person is but, it seems Canada are leading the way in trannys again

Re: Cricket 2023
Rather than look at individuals being best at the current time, the Cup was won by the breadth of batting talent in the OZ team. Maxwel'ls knock in the final series was astonishing, but at various times, most of the batsmen contributed. The fact that it was Indian pitches, makes the win all the more outstanding. Indian wickets have been graveyards for good sides for decades. No wonder India expected to take the trophy as they were playing on surfaces tailor-made for their brand of cricket.samster wrote: ↑November 22, 2023, 9:57 amNever really rated Head before the final where he had a great knock. Re: Cricket 2023
The India Premier League (IPL) has been running since 2008, so I imagine plenty of players in the Oz team have had prior experience in batting in Indian conditions in limited overs cricket.
