I received my new US passport. I had heard the passport number on your Thai DL needed to be changed to match your new passport number. Took a ride to Nong Han transport office. The lady told me I could used my Yellow Book/Pink ID number. However if I wanted to use my passport number I would have to go to the main office in Nong Phai. Since the Pink ID and Yellow Book numbers never change I chose to use those.
The Nong Han office is easy to find. On Hwy 22 heading east toward NKP. A kilometer or so past the Grand Hotel on the North side of the highway. It is easy to spot, just look for all the Thai Flags.
Changing Passport Number on DL
Re: Changing Passport Number on DL
I did the same, but after that, the new driving license had a text in the back in Thai saying something like “valid only in specific area” meaning the province where one’s listed address is. So in other words, the license would not be valid outside the province one lives. This limitation comes from the pink card somehow.
So I ended up changing back to use passport number and now it’s ok, no limitations.
So check behind your driving license if there is any limitations.

Checked my license. There is nothing about a limitation. I had also given here my yellow book, maybe that is why. The Yellow book number and Pink ID are the same.

Re: Changing Passport Number on DL
I just checked my licence, which was issued 2.5 years ago, using my yellow book number as ID. It also contains the text Changju highlights, which doesn't particularly concern me.
It is interesting that ladda's licence doesn't have the text. I can only assume someone within the DLT bureaucracy has woken up to the fact that it is probably redundant.

Re: Changing Passport Number on DL
My license was issued also about 3 years ago by presenting both yellow book and pink card, so if the newly issued licenses do not have the limitation, it indeed seems they have changed the system!

I just compared my wife's DL to mine. Of course she used her Thai ID card and housebook. Everything is identical except ept the obvious name etc..
