I have no doubt the "g" word is going to keep cropping up more and more over the ensuing days and weeks, when the reality of what is happening on the ground in Gaza is written about.

And in particular, what is about to happen in Rafah, after 100,000s of Gazans were forced there after the IDF operations in northern Gaza.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68256510

27,000+ dead, and amongst them, this sidenote.
Relatives have found the body of a six-year-old Palestinian girl who had begged Gaza rescuers to send help after being trapped by Israeli military fire, along with the bodies of five of her family members and two ambulance workers who had gone to save her.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society accused Israel of deliberately targeting the ambulance it sent to rescue Hind Rajab after she had spent hours on the phone to dispatchers begging for help with the sound of shooting echoing around.

"The occupation deliberately targeted the Red Crescent crew despite prior coordination to allow the ambulance to arrive at the site to rescue Hind," the Red Crescent said in a statement.

Plenty pictures of innocent Israeli children, slashed or stabbed or burned or blown to bits in Israel by the ever-peaceful Palestinians.

Since the brave Hamas fighters have steadily fled southwards under cover of the displaced Palestinian population, it was inevitable that they would end up being corralled in Rafah, along with the displaced Palestinian population.

Arguably, the IDF could have landed troops from the sea along the southern coast, north of the Egyptian border and ran a pincer movement on the congealed mass of humanity and terrorists. This conflagration would then have played out in the middle of the strip. However, that would have left the IDF's backs open to the Egyptians. You just don't do that.

When it comes to Hamas, there probably is an Arabic word for what we all recognize as modus operandi. Unfortunately, the likes of Al Jazeera just can't bring themselves to say it. The narrative is all "but Israel".

Is this OK?

And will there be accountability?
Israel is deliberately starving Palestinians, UN rights expert says

Exclusive: UN special rapporteur on the right to food Michael Fakhri says denial of food is war crime and constitutes ‘a situation of genocide’

Israel is intentionally starving Palestinians and should be held accountable for war crimes – and genocide, according to the UN’s leading expert on the right to food.

Hunger and severe malnutrition are widespread in the Gaza Strip, where about 2.2 million Palestinians are facing severe shortages resulting from Israel destroying food supplies and severely restricting the flow of food, medicines and other humanitarian supplies. Aid trucks and Palestinians waiting for humanitarian relief have come under Israeli fire.

“There is no reason to intentionally block the passage of humanitarian aid or intentionally obliterate small-scale fishing vessels, greenhouses and orchards in Gaza – other than to deny people access to food,” said Michael Fakhri, the UN special rapporteur on the right to food, in an exclusive interview with the Guardian.

“Intentionally depriving people of food is clearly a war crime. Israel has announced its intention to destroy the Palestinian people, in whole or in part, simply for being Palestinian. In my view as a UN human rights expert, this is now a situation of genocide. This means the State of Israel in its entirety is culpable and should be held accountable – not just individuals or this government, or that person.”........

No mention of the well established fact that Hamas exists and supports itself by stealing by force humanitarian supplies (food, medicine, etc.) intended for the Palestinian people.

This is demonstrably false. Israel has repeatedly said that it has no beef with the Palestinian people, only with Hamas. Hamas puts Palestinians in the middle by embedding itself in the civilian population and using civilians as shields.

And speaking of war crimes, no mention of Hamas' actions on October 6th?

Yeah, Mr. Fakhri seems to be a completely unbiased U.N. investigator.

Perhaps this is relevant, -- Mr. Fakhri is Lebanese, and believes that Israel occupies land that rightfully belongs to the Palestinian people. Yeah, completely unbiased.

Perhaps - or perhaps it is one of several red herrings in your response, which doesn't address the gist of the article ie why are children starving in Gaza.

That's an easy one, the children are starving in Gaza because Hamas invaded southern Israel late last year, killing Jews and taking hostages.

Simplistic, rather than easy, I would suggest.

HAMAS invaded Israel nearly 5 months ago, and is currently getting its well deserved comeuppance.

Meanwhile, many, many children are currently starving and dying in Gaza, in what seems to be collective punishment being imposed by the IDF under the direction of the radical Netanyahu government.

Tam has already addressed one issue. What are the other red herrings that you see?

And while you're at it, perhaps you could explain how Hamas' stealing humanitarian aid (yes, including food) intended for the Palestinian people is Israel's fault.

But you asked a simple question, no?

I am a "root cause" adherent from many work-related incident/accident investigations.

For example, there's absolutely no use in blaming the local purchase team for buying Band-Aids that were too small for the camp hospital when the "root cause" of the issue is the silly bugger should not have been up a ladder, by himself, in the dark, using the chain saw in a Force 6 gale in the first place.

The fact that Hamas may be diverting some food or other supplies cannot justify the collective punishment on millions of other Gazans.

Hamas is being dealt with - in the meantime, millions, including many children, are being deliberately starved.
On Monday, Amnesty International said Israel had failed to take “even the bare minimum steps” to comply with the ICJ ruling to ensure sufficient life-saving goods and services reaching a population at risk of genocide and on the brink of famine.
