Google Chrome VERY slow
I have 2 HP Notebooks connected to 3BB via the same Wifi Router. One running W10 and the other W11, both fully updated.
Chrome on the W10 Notebook slowed down yesterday with a lot of sites not connecting at all. It had taken many attempts to get the "Speedtest" done.
The browsing data has been completely cleared and "Chrome Settings" on both machines identical, extensions (only 1, Adobe Acrobat) off.
Been to many sites looking for a solution.
Any ideas here?
Thank you

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
My only thought is to make sure system is not trying to update and set notebook wifi to metered so will not try to update. Other then that no clue without playing around with notebook.

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
I have activated Firefox, imported my Chrome bookmarks and run many of the sites without problem, Speedtest is OK as well.

Suspect the WiFi adapter, drivers etc. WiFi is notoriously crap when compared to a cabled network.
Do you have a RJ45 (LAN) adapter or socket on either of them?
Here is the laptop I am on now with LAN then with WiFi:

Maybe try these solutions if you haven't already done so

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
You probably need to upgrade your piano wire, Dero.
But even if that doesn't work, changing over to Firefox is a win/win.

Thank you, that link is sending me to a "Mini Tool Partition" site with an error message on both machines????Stantheman wrote: ↑March 1, 2024, 12:13 pmMaybe try these solutions if you haven't already done so

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
Google's been doing a lot of 'soon to be released' updates, enhancements and stuff. I have noticed the 'Restart to update' flag in the top-right corner at least 3 or 4 times in the past month as well. But, as you've already discovered, TAB* works well.
I find when either Chrome, FF or Edge starts acting the goat, there's always Opera.
Or Brave...

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
Thank you, yes I do have a LAN ports but they are used to network my PC's. My 3BB Wifi wireless connections are quite satisfactory for my home use:-
2 x PC's
1 x TV with live streaming
Up to 4 phones, 2 streaming Thai soaps
etc. ALL simultaneously

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
As I said (post #3) FF works fine but it just bugs me as to why Chrome suddenly decided to hang up.
Thinking of uninstalling it, do a registry clean, then reinstall.

Yep that worked but I had found almost the same information on another site without success. Thanks anyway.Stantheman wrote: ↑March 1, 2024, 2:47 pm

Don't sweat it. Chrome is probably going through your underwear drawers at the moment to see what else it can 'learn' from you that will make more money for Alphabet.

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
Have you tried a VPN to see if it improves your Chrome responsiveness?
I am on a double-blind vsat internet service that connects via Hong Kong and a proxy server located in Xi Jinping's dunny. Even their officially approved Baidu is horribly hobbled. I turn on Proton VPN (free) and connection via Japan or Netherlands allows me to get back into the real world (and Udon Map).

Yes Tam, I subscribe to Express VPN and have done so for a number of years. I have run the "Speedtests" with the VPN off (as displayed in the screen shots in the OP) and on through various locations including Singapore, Sydney etc.
Not much difference!

Okidoki. My internet out here is abysmal and it's the first time where I have encountered using a VPN speeds things up across the board. Shows how much fence-jumping is involved working through a Chinese company's internet connection.
Onto your topic, i have found if I type a search item into Chrome, it will do nothing whereas if I type the same search into Firefox (with Google as the default search engine), it flies like a bird.
Just noticed ANOTHER "update now" prompt at top right corner of Chrome. I still think it's all these soon-to-be-revealed, new, whiz-bang, "new look" malarkey coming down the pipes.

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
@Bandung_Dero, I was just reminded that Windows update play a role in nearly every PC issue I have had for the past few years. You may want to check if there is an update pending even if you have updates turned off.

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
As I stated in the OP W10 is fully updated.
Checked both Notebooks this morning using TestMy.net. Even worse result.
I've uninstalled Chrome, completed a registry clean and reinstalled without any improvement. Looks like I'll stay with FF for a while.

Re: Google Chrome VERY slow
Some MS product updates are at their request, regardless of what the Windows settings are. For example, I'm running W11 and, as usual when offshore, I opt to turn OFF Windows updates. Two days ago, Edge browser installed an update after which my wi-fi hardware is disabled.
I have absolutely NO confidence in Chrome updates being anything the end-user has control over.
One day in the future, you'll check Chrome and it will be back to normal. Such is the 'internet of things'.
