Bought one ways to BKK for wife and I. Thai airways May 20. 1335 baht each.
And It's unbelievable the difference in price of around 4000 bht one way to sit up the front for the same 1-hour trip.
Nobody's being forced to pay for those seats.
Anyone who does either has far too much money to burn or (simply) an idiot
What part of nonofyourbusiness do you find too difficult to understand with regard other people's travel preferences?

Those 'front-of-the-bus' passengers heavily subsidise your and others coach passengers fare so you should appreciate your 28" seat pitch back there. Could be 26" otherwise.

Friend of mine bought a Qatar r/t about 10 months ago for his current Feb - April vacation and paid £948.

He has just booked another Qatar r/t for his next Nov - Jan vacation and paid £1166.

That's a 23% increase.

Unless your mate is flying business, I think he overpaid. Today I booked Qatar return to UK in May for just over 700GBP.

I would have thought dates of travel, dates of booking and flight/time popularity, layover time in Doha have much to do with these figures. The formulas used in ticket pricing are pretty complex. Then the consolidator block pricing can change the dynamic pricing too. I found buying a couple of biz class Qatar tickets via America Airlines web site were ~40% cheaper than the Qatar web site last year.

Business class for £948? Doubtful. I'd grab a dozen of those tickets if they were Q-Suites. 555

Is that BKK-???-BKK ?

My mate booked MAN-BKK- MAN.

Without the specifics of dates and flights, nobody can claim anyone has paid too much. More so if flying the opposite way in low season. Here's my May search to the UK

From what I have observed, Qatar prices fluctuate a lot.
I was watching prices for BKK-LGW-BKK over the past month. Qatar prices have gone from 31000BHT to 38000BHT to 440000BHT and back down today to 31000BHT for the same flight.
I haven't seen any change to Emirates prices during that period.

Its obvious that flight prices have gone up considerably, I just purchased a UT to Chang Mai return for 5,500, I think that expensive?
But what is the reasoning for price hikes behind all this? Just look at Thai air for instance, I've been traveling the UT BKK route for many many years usually for work commitments, I'm certain there were previously 4 flights a day UT BKK (some were half full years ago) but now 3 flights, that's got to push the price up, less seats so the punters pay more to get on a flight. Actually, my last couple of flights from BKK, in my favorite seats, the premium are now even near full. Lucky to be 4 or 5 before if not empty. Then last February Thai Air announced 45 new planes on order with Boeing. Who do you think is going to capitalise that. You and me of course. That new boss must be good with figures, one minute they are going into liquidation with a massive cleanout even selling spares seats in the warehouse, then it's back to normal and all's good and now back to spending big time.

I don't see any discount yet. Now in Pattaya and went round to the travel agent to book 2 tickets back to Udon.
Price they quoted was 5000 baht each. We have dicided to wait for vietjet. Prices are scandalous!!!

Above is a o/w fare. I think i mentioned earlier that EVERYONE wants the mid-day flight so that's why it's far more expensive than the red-eye or evening flight

That's an example of what Thai is offering so I doubt AirAsia, Nok, etc., are going to be 5000 baht OUTSIDE of popular mid-day flights (with all their baggage add-ons).

Travel agents will add their mark up. Get the app for each airline and do your own shopping and booking. Also, not knocking all travel agents but try another one?

I got my AirAsia app working and the following o/w fares from Don Muang to Udon Thani on Tuesday next week. Nothing near 5000 baht.

My post was with reference to another member being quoted 5000 baht for a o/w to UTH for next week. The closest I have found close to that is the 4480 baht on 'prime-time' Thai.

The LCC cariers out of DMK will have add-ons for baggage, but I doubt any of them will come close to 5000 baht o/w.

If you are reminiscing about 800 baht AirAsia or Nok Air fares, outwith their short-notice, time-capped, limited seats offerings on limited routes, unless it was purchased a year in advance, I think the 800 baht r/t is long gone.

Yesterday we tried 3 travel agents in Pattaya for a w/way ticket to UTH. First one quoted 3900 Baht. Second quoted 5000 baht. Called Thai and they quoted 5500 baht. Put phone down and went back to the first agent.
She looked on line and told us " price go up to 5000 Baht",
Then she said"No seats left sorry"
Now in Swampy awaiting the evening Vietjet flight.
Won't get caught again.

I was referring to the under 800 baht AirAsia early morning flights that were offered regularly and usually on KKC & UTH with needing to be booked about 4 days in advance last year. The reverse flights were not that low.

Unless one is working and have to be in another place speedily , noticing the horrendous increase in Air Fares, I have reverted to the old trusted method of travel, making it an enjoyable meander through THAILAND ir elsewhere for that matter.
Travel should be enjoyed , from Udon to Bangkok I use the train, relatively reasonable ad certainly shows you parts of THAILAND normally hidden , negotiating ones travel, is all part of lifes rich tapestry, staying overnight in weird places and generally making the journey part of the experience rather than A TO B ,
Of course travelling safely here is always upper in ones mind but over the yeas, and making checks etc, to date over 22 odd years never a problem These days eve some bus companies are offering comfortable journeys, air-conditioned and good ones have mulitple drivers who are NEVER drunk or Overtired. .
