I don't recall criticizing your English, but perhaps you would point me to where I did, while you're pointing me to where you were vindicated. Thanks!

Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
From what I have read, there was maintenance on the engine, but cannot find any reference to known problems. I asked for source of your statement before but no response, was it that maintenance your are referring to?Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 11, 2024, 7:08 amIT was known PRIOR to sailing that this ship had had power problems which although might have believed to be okay still manifested itself into a major power loss at a critical time.
So although a decision might have been made , ZERO efforts were made to mitigate a possible problem. On a small boat, not really an issue but on an Ocean going ~~Container ship of a large tonnage and loss anywhere would be a problem .
I suppose one could say knocking down the bridge wth the loss of life ( less than 10 ) was beneficial for the ship, cargo and crew as opposed to losing power in the middle of the ocean and subsequent loss of ship, cargo and all the crew.
As for my English being criticised by a YANK is no criticism at all !! [Redacted]

Biden's former chief of staff says the president spends too much time 'talking about bridges'.
Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
"Democratic President Joe Biden's former White House chief of staff said he thinks the president is spending too much time publicly highlighting his infrastructure wins in office instead of addressing economic issues that impact voters."
This is why he is the FORMER White House Chief of Staff

Why should I bother I read the same sources as you do, maybe understand differently if the source is written in American /English.
there were previous problems which may or may not have been successfully sorted, as it seems whatever caused the problems before re-emerged then caused complete power failure, which according to my source RN difficult to happen unless the engineers are complete numpties
Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
So it's all the Democrats fault? Same as in New Orleans?
Thought so.

You seem to be very shy about revealing your "sources", KP.Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 11, 2024, 4:19 pmWhy should I bother I read the same sources as you do, maybe understand differently if the source is written in American /English.

Surely by doing so, you could educate those of us who are interested in attaining the same level of inside knowledge that you have, and thereby immediately put an end to a lot of speculation.

Plenty of facts, hearsay and speculation to sift through here.

Report: Dali ship suffered 'severe electrical problem' while docked
©AP
The Dali cargo ship which smashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge suffered a 'severe electrical problem' while docked in Baltimore days before, according to a port worker. Julie Mitchell, co-administrator of Container Royalty, a company which tracks cargo, told CNN the ship was anchored at the port for at least 48 hours prior to the deadly crash.

Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
Assuming the immediate cause was a continuation, extension or recurrence of this electrical problem, then the real question is what caused the electrical problem, and apparently there are numerous possible causes. Time will tell.Khun Paul wrote: ↑April 14, 2024, 10:25 amReport: Dali ship suffered 'severe electrical problem' while docked

"Crew trapped on Baltimore ship, seven weeks after bridge collapse"
"The crew, made up of 20 Indians and a Sri Lankan national, has been unable to disembark because of visa restrictions, a lack of required shore passes and parallel ongoing investigations by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FBI."
What a crock. Men trapped due to paperwork.

Re: Baltimore Bridge collapse
They are "trapped" due to the US Immigration's arcane laws regarding foreign ships crew members and an inability to accept the global reality of "international in-transit" that most other nation's ports and airports easily accommodate. I do it three or four times a year... but not in the US.Doodoo wrote: ↑May 16, 2024, 2:10 pm"Crew trapped on Baltimore ship, seven weeks after bridge collapse"

My company in Houston had to post bond and pay for armed immigration department vehicles and escorts for 8 Indonesian crew from Corpus Christi to Houston so they could be repatriated. No bridge allision, no illegal entry, no stowaways, just 8 Indonesian crew of a US owned and Panamanian registered vessel who sailed it in from west Africa and now needed to go home.
That was before 9/11 where the new-fangled department of Homeland Security (who oversee the already lamentable USCG) has only made it worse.
