Brexit has saved
Brexit has saved
It is becoming painfully clear that the huge amounts of money Brussels borrowed is being wasted, with an investigation into fraud underway, accusations of corruption, and misallocation of resources.
In reality, Britain had a lucky escape from the whole sorry mess – and while we may have failed to seize many of the opportunities from Brexit, staying out of this disastrous fund was one of them.
It was launched with huge fanfare. At the height of the pandemic, the leaders of the EU created a €723bn programme designed to help the Continent’s economy recover from the pandemic.
Had Britain stayed in the EU up until the point where the fund was launched, and as one of the largest net contributors to its budget, we could have been on the hook for billions.

Bullet dodged? Pity it was Bojo and the Tory Clown Circus that were the incumbents, filling their own miserable boots, fiddling while Brussels fiddled.

Re: Brexit has saved
I'm not a Brit, just an observer. If it were my country, I would resent a huge bureaucratic group making rules for my country. I certainly would have supported leaving. Obviously the majority of Brits felt the same way.

The USA has already signed dozens of International conventions. The Geneva Convention, World Trade, The laws of the Sea etc, etc. Interestingly enough, I remember when they were torturing prisoners in Gitmo, they ignored the Geneva Convention. So I suppose the USA can do what it likes if it wants.

Much like this forum where an Aussie can posit on an American's opinion on a uniquely British political happenstance.Whistler wrote: ↑April 16, 2024, 12:46 pmThe USA has already signed dozens of International conventions. Back on topic, it was a very slim majority that voted leave and I believe that feeds the ongoing contentious debate. This "I told you so" non-story of EU corruption from the left-leaning media will be countered soon enough by some lengthy "whataboutery" from the Remainer camp.

Ah, but Tam. I can be a Brit or an Aussie, can change on a whim when it suits me. There are things sadly and gladly I cannot be, can't be English, Thai or American although I am likely to move back to USA later in the year for a wee while.
