Laos tourist VOA cost at Nong Khai Friendship Bridge

Post by Brian Davis » April 15, 2024, 2:38 pm

I appreciate that it may depend on who you get, what day of the week it is etc., but can anyone confirm the cost of a tourist VOA to Laos for a UK citizen, if there's a preference for a particular currency, or if dollars, baht or kip is accepted? I try to be prepared for any eventuality. Much of the internet info is ancient. Thanks.

I think they are 1,700 baht, or a bit cheaper if you pay in USD. They don't want Kip.

Thanks for reply. Of course, there's not a lot of difference anyway, but I just wanted an assurance they'll accept baht, which suits me.

I recall that current forex rates make paying in cash THB the cheapest option versus cash USD.

When I went to Savanakhet last year, I applied/paid for the eVisa online. It cost a bit more than the cash USD fee but was super convenient as the processing at the border was way faster.

The Lao eVisa sticker is postage stamp sized versus the one-page visa-on-arrival sticker. However, that observation is based on a VoA issued to me in 2020, and maybe they're ALL postage stamp sized now?

Of course Savanakhet is a lot quieter than Vientiane so there are no guarantees of the same result at Vientiane.

AFIK Thai baht has never been less expensive than US$ one downside of using US$ is that they require virtually new notes

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.

VOA laos is normally 35USD or 1.500 baht , a minimum validity of 6 months passport and you need 1 or 2 passport size photos for application ,all dependent on the mood of the treating officer ...(TIL) ..., and fill in the application form,
