A curious lapse of security. Google Earth view indicates that the adjacent commercial property from who's rooftop the shooter took aim, has totally unsecured and relatively unmarked access from the highway. Google Street View camera car drove around the business's parking lot and past the frontage of the building the shooter was on. There's a simple fence line between this property and that of the Butler Farm Show.

Being the weekend, the business was probably closed anyway.

How much advance information on the precise location of the rally, including the main stage and bleachers orientation is published or otherwise freely available?

I guess the kid could have just got lucky (and Trump just a few inches luckier).

Seriously doubt there was any multiple person input in this failed attempt. They would have ensured that the shooter could actually shoot straight in the first place. From released information the shooter was less than 200m away from the podium, in the prone position with telescopic sights fitted to the weapon and still missed by 100mm (4inches). This is just a wee silly boy with access to firearms thinking he was doing the world a favour.

Trump moving his head how much
Type of ammunition used (new or old ammo)
Type of telescope used
Had the rifle been sighted in prior to the shooting
Sun direction and intensity interfering with shot

Trust me its not, wind at 'that' range usually does not factor unless around 70km/hour or more.
The fact that the young man took a head shot instead of a Centre Mass shot also shows incompetence. Even if Trump was wearing Kevlar protection under his shirt they dont offer protection from high velocity rounds.
Head movement if ducking on hearing the sound of either a round passing or the thump of the actual rifle discharge might be a factor but Donald only seemed to react after he was clipped. Again at that range a high velocity round travel from weapon to target is milliseconds so again normal head movement probably is not a factor same as age of ammo or scope.
So that leaves whether the rifle is zeroed or not, the amount of weapons found at the boys home would indicate a family pretty familiar with weapons and how they operate so it would be sensible to have weapons zeroed, if not just another example of the shooters incompetence. All in all seems that Trump was pretty fortunate to survive or at least not been badly wounded.
