When shot the victim doesnt usually care what caliber of bullet was used

Anyone know the calibre of the shooters rifle.
Was a rifle so probably 5.56 or .223 but info not released yet.

I would much prefer a hollow nosed 9mm from a handgun, especially if wearing kevlar which I assume Trump and his security detail were all wearing.

A 9mm pistol from 200 metres away, I don't think so.
Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.

No distance mentioned, just a general observation about any victim caring about what hit him. :D

Whistle
9mm ammo is used in a pistol generally and not a rifle that was used in this case

Alex
The distance was "Former President Donald Trump was about 400 to 500 feet (120 to 150 meters) from the suspected gunman at the time of the shooting at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to CNN’s analysis of their geolocated positions."
"Doodoo

It was an "AR-15 style" rifle.

Jeez, where did I say a handgun was used.
You posted a throwaway statement, When shot the victim doesnt usually care what caliber of bullet was used. Not specifically referring to Trump but a victim of shooting in general. my response was based on my preference, if being shot, to the caliber and type of round that would give me the best chance of survival.
Given that my previous posts had all been specifically based on rifles and data from high velocity ammunition I find it strange that you and some others would take it that I am claiming it was a handgun used in the Trump attempt.
It has since been confirmed that the range was 130m and it 'was' a military style AR15 which makes the miss even more astounding.

Not all AR-15's are created equally. The one used in this particular case was on the cheaper end and a poor choice for effective long-range shooting, manufactured by DPMS.

Not too astounding when you consider that despite being a member of a large gun club, according to a fellow student who knew him, Trump's failed assassin wasn't good enough to make his own high-school shooters team.

I've just realized the specious hypocrisy of an American high school already having "trained shooters."

Exactly where is the manufacturer and price of the AR15 used revealed.
130m can hardly be called Long Range Shooting even by civilian standards.
Just remember that the military are supplied by the cheapest available manufacturer and even the worst soldier is supposed to be able to hit a target at 300m at least 70% of the time.

Huge difference from someone who is an adequate shooter to someone who is Shooting Team standard.
My Regt's shooting team was 8 strong from a muster strength of 850. So less than 1% of available shooters were good enough to be in the team. Competition standard is a massive step up from decent or even good marksmen (people).

I had rifle and shooting practice in primary and secondary schools in the '50s. It was part of the CCF training.

There is the difference between 2 societies. I joined the RAAF (Australian Airforce) as a 16 yo apprentice in 1966. We never touched a gun of any sort for 2 years --- let alone high school or the time I spent in the Cadets prior to signing up. In saying that we had olde WW2 303's (no bolt) used for drill instruction 5555.
