Olympics

Post by Doodoo » July 20, 2024, 3:55 pm

The youngest known Olympian to take home a medal was 10-year-old Dimitrios Loundras, who finished third in the team parallel bars at the 1896 Olympic Games.

But there may have been a younger medalist; according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a young French boy was a cox for a Dutch coxed pairs rowing team in 1900. He took part in the medal ceremony and was photographed. But, despite years of research, his name and age remain unknown – he’s estimated to have been between 7 and 12.

On the womens side Team USA lost to Team WNBA 109 to 117. In other words the US is sending the 2nd best team to the Olympics.

Here is the Official medal table from the IOC. https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/medals

Australia will drop down the table as the games progress. Many early events are in Australia favourite Olympic sports like swimming, but athletics peak towards the later events and that is not a strength

For a nation of only 26 million, Australia certainly punches well above it weight and should finish in the top 10 easily

How much money does Australia spend preparing athletes to compete in the Olympics and punch well above their weight?
