$21 Billion Digital Cash Handout Scheme

Post by jackspratt » August 1, 2024, 10:28 am

Has anyone else heard about this, including your Thai significant other?
Thailand's controversial $21 billion digital cash handout scheme finally gets moving

- Thailand has begun the sign-up process for a controversial $21 billion "digital wallet" plan for 50 million Thai citizens.

- Economists have labelled the long-promised scheme costly, unsustainable and detrimental to Thailand's already struggling economy.

- Citizens have six weeks to apply for the one-off 10,000 baht ($420) payment.

I'm pretty sure you have been down this trite path before.

Or was it the banal one?

Been all over the Thai news for ages. Was an election promise! "Clayton's" vote buying.

All the parties had a different scheme to buy votes last election.
This just happens to be the winner.
Better remind the household to register and put the hand out for the cash.

I would have thought that after this ridiclious ecconomic decision the Thai Baht would have declined against the USD but it went up to 35.5 from 36.2. Ya gotta wunda!

It ain't cash and they tell you where u can and cannot spend it. And what you cannot spend it on .So they can track everything . And the spender !! A beginning of what! They of course have to borrow all the credit so someone in Thailand will need to stump up with billions down the track . Of course the government will need to bite into tax money . Does it ring bells ???
