The US's struggle against disinformation
The US's struggle against disinformation
In seizing Kremlin-run websites and charging two Russian state media employees, the White House executed its most sweeping effort yet to push back against alleged Russian attempts to spread disinformation as the US presidential election approaches a critical stage.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
Did Kamala work for McDonald's as she says, or did she not? This sort of question seems to be an important issue for U.S.
political pundits at the moment. The question was also raised on Australian TV (ABC) today. Politicians are always honest with the voting public aren't they?
One of the fact-finding companies says the matter is currently under review.
As for important policies, it looks like they will have to wait.

LYM why do you even bother to post until you at least try and see if it is fact or fiction. First article on Google search. It is not being researched by fact finding organisations, it has been debunked already

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
I believe Uncle Tilo may be talking about a different McDonald's issue. He didn't mention theft.
Perhaps further research is called for.
Besides that, my read of his post is that he is highlighting the media's emphasis on matters of little consequence, while important policy discussion takes a back seat.
This very issue is taken up by an opinion writer in today's NYT:

I was watching Gutfeld on Fox (as you do) and they spent one segment of the show playing old sleepy Joe gaffes and having a right old giggle. Pithy stuff.jackspratt wrote: ↑September 5, 2024, 5:14 pmI believe Uncle Tilo may be talking about a different McDonald's issue. He didn't mention theft.

I notice that the awful British author, conservative political commentator, cultural critic, journalist and general pillock-around-town Douglas Murray was a guest. With his ridiculous silver highlights, it made his head look like a frosted Christmas tree bauble which pretty much matched his utterances.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
Whistler, one can see why the Australian trade union people scared you out of politics. You don't understand what is said and misinterpret what you read. Then you have the gall to suggest someone not post if they get the facts wrong when it is yourself who does not realise they have bungled. It is no wonder the trade union balked at your forceful language and screwing up the facts. Your guff/bilge is ridiculous.Whistler wrote: ↑September 5, 2024, 4:25 pmLYM why do you even bother to post until you at least try and see if it is fact or fiction. First article on Google search. I was listening to two guys on Australian TV (ABC) discussing recent silliness in U.S. politics including the Arlington Cemetery incident and Kamala's speech in which she had said that in the past she had worked for the hamburger joint.
Some might suggest you need to get things right prior to flying off the handle or you need to get a life.
I thought you gave me a place of honour on your list of foes. If you neglected to do so, please do.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
I have heard the comment that lies have travelled around the world before truth has even laced up.its shoes. Very applicable to some members on this forum.
Examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect where people with limited knowledge of a given topic significantly overestimate their understanding.
I have seen this on threads particularly on things like climate change, the origin of COVID, vaccination efficacy, the barrier reef, sea level rises to a huge extent, but many other subjects as well. An app called blinkist has been recommended for those who wish to comment on controversial subjects. A useful tool for those that seek the truth rather than fringe opinions that typically can be debunked with a minimal amount of research.
My view, if it is a fringe theory on any subject, don't readily believe that theory until you really understand the subject.
I am anricipating the naysayers on here trying to twist this as another personal attack. I suggest before they succumb to
that temptation, they find one single post where I have promoted a fringe theory.

Lies, disinformation, distorted viewpoint, conspiracy theories are all in the same family. I think the post is very much on topic.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
Must have been one of the shortest tenures of a federal government department. I certainly missed it at the time. Either ill conceived or wrongly named but the right wing got most upset about the whole notion of the Disinformation Governance Board. It has been described as being the victim of the disinformation it was supposed to filter out.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
The debate today pretty much sums up what is happening, the bare faced lies from Trump were breathtaking
- The world was dumping its criminals and insane asylums into America. I will write to Australia's PM and ask him to stop doing that. I expect to slip into San Francisco on Saturday without any scrutiny.
- 15 million illegals have entered the USA in Bidens watch. Homeland security processed far less than that, who in Trumps orbit is counting them how and what are their names?
- Haitian illegals are eating ducks, cats and puppy dogs in Springfield the city admin says there is no evidence on this.
Blah, blah, blah....incredibly lie after lie from a man who was actually President

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
Thought the one about Democrats allow abortion at 8 and 9 months and babies are being left to die or are even executed.
That one was a bit frightening from Trump, to think that he thinks people will believe that rubbish.

Did Harris say anything of significance or potentially vote-turning than Trump's bs?
As mentioned in the other thread, Taylor Swift has probably gained more 'votes' than either of these debaters.

Unfortunately, that's all just white noise to the MAGA collective, but you are right, there's enough idiots out there that won't question his nonsense and some of them have already been elected to the House.

Re: The US's struggle against disinformation
So, is this "second assassination attempt" all what the FBI thinks it is? To recap, an elderly guy in Florida doesn't get shot at on his own golf course, ten minutes from his own house while a convenient 'witness' not only sees someone running away but manages to take a photo of his license plate?
For some reason, mainstream media coverage hasn't been as OTT as the Butler Farm Show show.
Anyhoo, despite his disappointment, BD seeks answers!
