Floods
Re: Floods
Flash floods, nothing to see here, move along now (to Bueng Kahn and Nakhon Phanom).

Re: Floods
Any updates from those living in Nong Khai, these photos do not look good, most of the promenade has gone under?

We live in the boonies of Loei province at a thousand feet above sea level After the last big flood, I don't remember what year, the property prices up here skyrocketed. They now could go up again. I guess that people on flood prone areas are looking for dry areas with no flooding.
Re: Floods
Years ago We lived in a gated village north of Bangkok. When we had heavy rain, the government would close the flood gate near the village and the village would flood. The villagers would then open the steel gate and drain the village. The government would come back and close the gate again. It was a back and forth game. Finally one night some villager had a portable welder. They welded the gate open and the village would drain. As far as I know, the government never was able to close that flood gate again.
Re: Floods
We hosted a couple of the rowdy Nong Khai 'outlaws' for a couple of nights since Saturday. The good news is the waters have apparently receded, and they'll be heading back north this afternoon.
Looking forward to the return of peace and quiet at casa tam.

Re: Floods
We are on flood watch in Sittarom (albeit from the UK over CCTV!) on the Ring Road due to the release of water as Mak mentions ^.
Claims on the Sittarom residents line group are that the first group of houses at the front of the estate will be flooded and others at risk.
Wife has drafted in the troops from the village to move our furniture to higher ground (which appears to be on top of the beds and other items placed on a few inches of brick!) I've know doubt the ham fisted ban nok will have done more damage trying to protect the furniture than the slight risk of flood water inside our house. But it's the thought that counts and nice to see them rallying around.
I've know lost the main CCTV for the house as they were instructed to unplug everything which includes the DVR and wifi repeater. So I'm now only on the covert system that is hidden away out of sight.

Re: Floods
The east side ring road was a mess mid afternoon, down to 1 lane each way from the bend at Thai Watsadu south to almost the railway crossing. Huge volumes of water being pumped from the city side across to the big klong on the east side with the ditch in the median overflowing. At least one huge pump working just south of Sittarom. Latest Google Map shows it's still a bottleneck.
Unable to u-turn, I had to cancel the shopping trip and retire to CCW for an unscheduled beer.
Also noted that the local drivers were being particularly "difficult" today, something that was also noted and commented by another east-to-west commuter.

Re: Floods
Managed the U-turn without much trouble today, travelling east-west and then the reverse back to Big-C.
Drivers were not very cooperative, but after living 4 years in Beijing, you learn to spot the smallest of openings (I'm talking about traffic ).

Re: Floods
Fortunately, the pump is quite close to the U-turn point, so assuming you can force your way in, you don't get caught up in what must be quite a considerable tail-back.
Re: Floods
Nah...I avoided the stramash completely today, cut through town and got to CCW early as the sports lorry really needed cleaning, inside and out. Took two large Leo's.jackspratt wrote: ↑September 26, 2024, 5:58 pmFortunately, the pump is quite close to the U-turn point, so assuming you can force your way in, you don't get caught up in what must be quite a considerable tail-back.

Re: Floods
All clear yesterday afternoon (no screen grab at the time) so the west-to-east tidal wave has dissipated. The two active tropical storm/depression will turn north and paste Taiwan and Japan.
The high pressure over Vietnam that's giving us these two sunny and mostly rain-free days is keeping the TS/TD well away.
