Re: U.S. Politics
There's never a day that goes by without great entertainment from Trump. I see he claimed yet again that Kamala Harris never worked at a McDonald’s. It's kind of ridiculous that he is asking to see proof of that employment from long ago. This isn’t the kind of thing someone would lie about. It’s not like sex with a porn star while your wife is pregnant.
Re: U.S. Politics
These words are emotive, not emotional. Emotion is a feeling. Words themselves cannot have feelings but they can invoke feelings, hence they are emotive.

What a shame that this is no being described for what it is 'smear tactics' instead we call it typical for the post truth era.
Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.
Re: U.S. Politics
I, too, hate this era of prevarication when there are much simpler, exact and accurate ways to describe things. As George Carlin famously put it, words that hide the truth. "Americans have trouble dealing with reality."
Shell shock --> Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Poor people --> Economically disadvantaged
Slum --> Substandard housing
Fired --> Made rendundant
Crippled --> Handicapped --> Differently abled
Deaf --> Hearing impaired
Blind --> Visually impaired
Old people --> Senior citizens
Die --> Pass away
And, most relevant to this thread . . . .
Illegal aliens --> Undocumented immigrants.

Re: U.S. Politics
This will be unpopular but the last example is linguistically flawed regardless of how one views the issue. No other law-breakers are referred to as illegal. If you murder someone, you are not referred to as an illegal killer. People are not illegal, their crimes are illegal. If you overstay in Thailand, you are staying here illegally.Udon Map wrote: ↑September 29, 2024, 8:26 amI, too, hate this era of prevarication when there are much simpler, exact and accurate ways to describe things. I realize this makes linguists WOKE by default, but I don't think they care.
Re: U.S. Politics
No. The difference is that a murderer isn't guilty until found so by a court. An alien's presence in the U.S., by itself, is illegal if s/he does not have permission to be there. His/her status as an alien in the U.S. is illegal. If the alien has entered the country legally, s/he is a legal alien.anefarious1 wrote: ↑September 29, 2024, 1:37 pmThis will be unpopular but the last example is linguistically flawed regardless of how one views the issue. The alien's crime is entering, and then remaining, in the U.S. It's his/her continued presence that is illegal.

Re: U.S. Politics
Agreed, when referring to their status/continued presence. I quite like criminal alien or illegal status alien, but I'm splitting hairs now and just riling up the anti-woke crowd who I'm sure prefers the label "illegals".

I see that Kamala is now going to finish the fence that Trump started. The only reason that it was stopped was because it was Trump's idea. That fence was not entirely funded by the government. Many private citizens contributed to the project. It was a huge mistake to stop it and just shows the hatred that the democrats have for Trump. It was a cut off your nose to spite your face moment. Same thing with eliminating the rules that Trump initiated.

The Democrat Team had holes cut in the existing wall and welded open the gates in the wall.
Finishing the wall with materials that already exist and are laying on the ground at the border doesn't mean the immigration law will be enforced; and it also doesn't mean that the millions who lied about seeking amnesty will be deported.

Trump has a long and well-documented history of hiring and exploiting aliens working in the US illegally. I realize cultists don't care, but even lots of real conservatives have had enough and realize the populist pro-Putin cult leader (masquerading as a conservative) is playing the American public 6 ways to Sunday.glalt wrote: ↑September 30, 2024, 9:17 amI see that Kamala is now going to finish the fence that Trump started. Re: U.S. Politics
When the Democrat Newsletter (The New York Times) reported that Trump's elite resorts had numerous illegal aliens working as housekeeping, maintenance and landscaping employees, the Trump Organization responded:
Trump used Union workers to build his properties and also used E-Verify. If the Labor Unions hired illegals, there is no way for any property owner to know the legal status of union workers.We have tens of thousands of employees across our properties and have very strict hiring practices. If any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately.

Re: U.S. Politics
Well what has been reported isnt all true
"Trump used Union workers to build his properties}"
"In the summer of 1980, Donald Trump faced a big problem. For six months, undocumented Polish laborers had been clearing the future site of Trump Tower, his signature real estate project on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, where he now lives, maintains his private offices and hosts his presidential campaign."
The Golden Warrior came back with "“They have people. I don’t know. I don’t remember, that was so many years ago, 35 years ago"
" Trump sought out the Polish workers when he saw them on another job, instigated the creation of the company that paid them and negotiated the hours they would work. The papers contain testimony that Trump repeatedly toured the site where the men were working, directly addressed them about pay problems and even promised to pay them himself, which he eventually did
The documents show that after things got ugly over unpaid wages, Trump sought Sullivan’s advice on the workers and their immigration status. At one point, a lawyer for the Poles testified, Trump threatened, through his own lawyer, to call the Immigration and Naturalization Service and have the workers deported."

Exactly why the illegal invaders who come from France (the really bad place for illegal invaders to stay?)must be treated as criminals in the British judicial system, not housed in 4* hotels for years.Udon Map wrote: ↑September 29, 2024, 1:53 pmNo. The difference is that a murderer isn't guilty until found so by a court. Re: U.S. Politics
Please tell me that your point isn't that that was all five years ago and things have changed. Because if that's your point, I'm going to remind you that one of the [many] things that Trump is blasting Harris about is that her views today are different from her views when she last ran for President. So he's allowed to change but she's not?Declan MacPherson wrote: ↑September 30, 2024, 4:27 pmVanity Fair 2019 Democrat Newsletter #2

As anticipated, and to be expected if you use the Washington Times and/or Trump as a source, Declan's claim about all those criminals who entered under Biden, and are running loose around the country, is in large part bullshizzle.jackspratt wrote: ↑September 28, 2024, 2:18 pmInconveniently, none of them seem to tell us when all these crims entered the US - surely they weren't all over the past 4 years.Declan MacPherson wrote: ↑September 28, 2024, 1:09 pm
