I am no fan of Mr. Salmond and would have voted for staying in the Union if his efforts at vote gerrymandering hadn't prohibited me and the Scottish diaspora from having a say. However, he earnedly sought to destroy the pseudo feudalism that masquerades as the current, devolved parliament, a sop from the Blair administration. I recall he stepped down from party leadership after the failure of his "once in a lifetime" referendum. It was his protégé who took separatism to dizzy and nonsensical new heights while corruption reigned.

As for being "bitterly divided by Religious and Republican hatred", isn't that Northern Ireland? Or an "Auld Firm" game?

Unfortunately that is precisely what is going on in Scotland at present. The absolute farce that Holyrood has become has also contributed to the decimation of the SNP in the last election.
One problem that will become a factor is that if the Liebour Party performance continues on its downward spiral then for many the alternative will be the SNP again.

From 2018, Salmond faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault and attempted rape, but in 2020 was ultimately acquitted on all charges: found not guilty on 12 charges, and not proven on one of sexual assault with intent to rape.
