Coronary artery bypass surgery

Post by lassebasse » October 15, 2024, 8:06 pm

My father-in-law has made an appointment for coronary artery surgery here at Udon Thani hospital. I was not aware that they did this type of advanced surgery here in Udon. I had the same type of surgery some 30 years ago in Sweden at a specialist hospital. Do they have the same methods today? We have been informed that the chest will be opened, so peephole surgery is out of the question. I remember that I myself received intensive care for just under a week and then another week in regular hospitals for follow-up care. What can we expect here?

I am aware of 2 farang residents in Ban Dung who have had successful open-heart surgery in Udon within the past 2 years - both at Bangkok Hospital, rather than Udon General.

In one case, it was quadruple bypass surgery performed by a team who travelled from the world-class heart unit at Khon Kaen Sirikit hospital.

I don't have the details of the other.

I have been very critical in the past about standards of in-patient facilities in Udon General. Old hospital with very basic in-house patient care that are neither clean or what could never even be described a hygienic.
I would seriously council your family member to try get and the procedure done in KK Heart Hospital.
