Any E-waste shops or drop off points in Udon Thani?

Post by Dingo » January 9, 2021, 12:23 pm

Hi all,
I couldn't find any other posts in the forum, so thought I would post.
Does anyone know of any E-Waste stores that recycle or collect old computers, phones, screens, etc. in Udon Thani?
Staring to get quite an accumulation here and would like to see them recycled, rather than just going into landfill?
I'm sure others must have old electronics lying around collecting dust!
Any advice or info welcome.

Thanks
Dingo

Good thread.

I was thinking about this after my spring-cleaning unearthed a bag of dead and leaking rechargeable AA batteries. Don't want to stick that in the local landfill.

Totally agree.
Have a few dead phones lying about and the non rechargeable batteries that we should dispose of responsibly have nowhere to go. Some of the bigger stores (Big C, Tops) could have a bin that people could chuck the waste into. Someone must have a recycle plant somewhere. More toxic than plastic carrier bags.

......... a bag of dead and leaking rechargeable AA batteries. Don't want to stick that in the local landfill.
So there in lies your dilemma:- Do you just let em rot in your closet or at least get em into a central location be it an antiquated but typical Thai land fill.

Me? I just throw them onto my village backyard fire (90% garden waste), let them explode and burn off the flammable materials then put the metal remains in the bin. As for knackered electronic hardware/appliances our local recycler just throws it into his Sam Lore along with my empty beer bottles, parts with some cash to Mrs Dero, and problem gone!

Thanks guys,
It would appear not, so will ask around within other cities. You'd think there would be someone doing it as there are precious metals within the components. Then again.............TIT :-)

Never had a problem getting rid of recycle stuff.
Just leave near the bin and it'll be gone within the hour.

I wonder if they'll notice if I slip 8 litres of old motor oil in there?

I was given an inkjet printer that within a few days wasnt required but the giver had moved on .. i put it out front with the normal rubbish / trash and quick as a flash (minutes) a bin dipper had snaffled it, my E waste had gone.

This can also be done with other unwanted household items like old mattresses and broken kitchen equipment ...alas not sure this possible with old motor oil ....but costs nowt to try.

Does anyone have any updates to this important topic - particularly whether the Thai Post service is still operational?

Thanks

No still doing the same. Not sure what "the Thai Post service" has to do with this topic. :-k

Missed that - I can just see it now. Our postman, who must be older than me, riding off down the road, on his Honda Wave, with me crapped out 55 inch TV strapped to his back.

As I wrote - "Still doing the same" referring to my post Jan 9th 2021.

I must have missed somewhere in the article them talking about 55-inch screen TVs being given to the Postmen for disposal.

""People can drop their old smartphones, tablets, chargers, headphones, power banks, and smartphone batteries into a box and give it to postmen"

OK, for those without a sense of humour:- I'll try to give the postie a 2kg shoe box full of e-waste to dispose of. What do you think he will do with it? Wots f#÷k off in Thai?

had a 43" TV where the plastic leg gave out on it and it toppled face down on the floor. Irreparable but taped the remote and AC cable to it and put it out by our bins.. Gone in 30 minutes..

We were just talking about similar this evening at CCW. If you want something gone, just leave it outside the gate or beside the bins. Almost as fast as a poor Nick Cage & Angelina Jolie movie.
