I think most of the flying hoi polloi will still need a boarding pass with gate, flight and seat number, otherwise a lot of departures will be delayed. Maybe this idea of using biometrics is you don't need to keep showing it?

I recall leaving ABZ on an international departure over 10 years ago, your picture was taken at the point where you showed your boarding pass (before security) and you were good to go at the gate. I recall it was similar at LGW. More recently at MAN, I don't recall a facial scan but that could have been done rather benignly at the bag drop?

At international departures at BKK, one scans the boarding pass QR code and you're good to go up the escalator and all the way through security to immigration. Apart from DF sales, there's one more scan at the boarding gate.

However, I am pretty sure that for flights carrying passengers with onward connections to the US, they'll still be checking. Same goes for El Al's passengers. I haven't been to the US for a long time so I'm wondering if their security passage to air side and beyond is as labour-intensive and pedantic as it used to be? LAX in particular was really bad, coming and going.

Read the article, my question is when is the departure immigration stamp applied to the non-thai passport, or is this no longer required?

No boarding pass or stamp in your passport, so I guess we have to keep some kind of proof, if we are trying to keep our stay in Thailand under 180 days.

I don't read anything in the article which suggests boarding passes won't still be issued.

I noticed in the last two months flying to/from DMK/UTH that they no longer accept the boarding pass I generally print at home to reduce the check-in counter step in the airport.

They allow the app on the phone boarding pass and the one printed at the counter only. I don't really like using the phone app this way as it significantly slows the boarding process when they don't have a scanner at the gate. The silly manual writing down the passenger's seat on a bit of paper just seems backward.

I do not know what prompted this change apart from someone possibly editing a boarding pass and getting caught when the seat was double booked? Mai loo. Just beware if you are tight on time and expect to be able to use a home printed version.

At BKK airport and with Thai (domestic), I still do check-in and seat selection online, but stopped printing anything over a year ago, as the self check-in kiosks became more user friendly and reliable. I do save the the boarding pass to my phone (as a screen shot, not in their app), but at the self check-in kiosks, they give you the option to print a paper one which I find works easier than scanning the phone. Also makes it faster when security screeners compare your ID with your boarding pass after the automatic gates and before going down the long escalator to the gates.

They've also got self-service bag tag and bag drop that I used coming back with the family a couple of weeks ago, and it was way, way faster than queuing up for regular check-in and bag check. They do have multi-lingual staff available to help if you come unstuck on the self-service stuff.

Is that Nok Air?

It was Nok but it was the security at UTH that sent be back to the counter for the thermal printed boarding pass. Not the airline. Home printed paper not allowed according to the security guy last month.

Just back today from DMK and they are using facial scanners for the ID when entering the bag/body scan area as well as when boarding the plane. One still has to scan the boarding pass QR code along with the face scan. I used the PDF on my phone which to me is slower and more clumsy to scan and show the cabin crew again when both hands are carrying a laptop bag and roller bag. The queue to have them print a boarding pass was crazy long and plain silly. I really don't understand the logic to not print a boarding pass at home after online check-in. I mean if they think is a loophole for fraudulent passes, the same PDF can be uploaded to a phone too. I just don't get it.

I may print at home and carry the paper boarding pass next trip in case it was a misinformed security agent. I'd like to hear if anyone else has been turned away when using the home print method recently.
