Thaksin's war on drugs - part deux

Post by tamada » December 14, 2024, 7:37 am

There's been a steady increase in petty theft in our moobahn during daylight, and there are far too many scooters driven by strangers creeping around during the night. Whether they're stealing stuff to fuel their yabba habit in the daytime or it's the daytime workers coming by for their night time fix, it is getting worse than it was before.

With my neighbor and myself upgrading security on our adjacent properties with motion-detecting flood lights and expanded cctv to address this, the following is welcome news.

Re drugs readily available in Thailand now and as you mentioned folk's snooping around at night I reckon it's the slow beginning of the end of peacefull Thailand. Just notice how Pattaya is now always in the news with its crime issues one way or another.

Thaksin's last war on drugs (about 2004-5) saw a number of suppliers, here in Ban Dung, receive a 02:00 AM knock on the door and then blown away. One being our neighbor 3 doors up the road (a well known Yabba dealer) and another being a prominent business man in Ban Dung and known hard drug dealer.

I believe there were many around the country meeting the same fate at the time.

Unless all (which will never happen) are eliminated at the same time just getting a few reduces the supply and therefore increasing the prices.

Drugs will always be available, why? because there is a yearning for them. Same as alcohol, prostitution, etc

That's the plan though. Make it unaffordable for the users as well as dangerous for the dealers. Win-win, no?

I sometimes have a yearning for a beer, but I don't crave it or need it 24/7. There's a difference between yearning and addiction. There does need to be an enduring and sustainable social welfare system to assist those that suddenly lose their crutch when the cops blow away all the dealers. Otherwise, the Human Rights fan club will be all over any government that uses extreme measures, plus their opposition in parliament will chime in just because they have nothing better to do or want to deflect from their own inadequacies or lack of policy. Personally, I think the laws should be changed so that anyone involved with the dealing and supplying of drugs has their precious human rights taken away.

I was quite surprised to read that outside of Europe, Thailand ranks very high on the provision of drug rehab facilities. I am not sure if it has kept abreast of this recent surge in yabba use though, but they are making an effort.

Will NEVER happen Example Prohibition, Opium Wars
Its like countries that have high unemployment, no money. What do they have in common? Booze and Drugs
Example on dangerous we see bodies hanging from the overpasses on highways, murders everywhere, kidnappings etc

I have mentioned this before, so a refresher won't hurt

USA is funding say $13 billion in fight against drugs to other countries.
So if there is a Win the other countries lose, their $13 Billion meaning No more firearms, no more Apache helicopters, no more armored personnel carriers, no more ships, no more luxury houses, no more need for armed personnel along with colonels and generals This is also what happens internally in the USA, same same, all over

Another internal example was that back in the 70's the state of Kentucky had a thriving Marijuana trade. The locals loved it. Why? because it gave them money. Car Dealerhips, thrived entertainment, etc why, because the drug business gave them employment along with money

No matter what Government says or does it will survive

Meanwhile, back here in present-day Thailand where there is neither high unemployment nor lack of money, bring back the heavy-handed enforcement. Then the vast majority of good people, the non-addicted people, who only yearn for a bit of peace and quiet, will feel AND BE safer in their moobahns.

the majority of the Ya Ba is brought in from the Golden Triangle, Wa Chinese area of northeaster Myanmar (Burma).. I'm willing to bet the countries around that nexus of drug production know full well where the labs are and who the narco bosses are.. A joint Special Operations hit could wipe all that out pretty quickly. But, it'll never hapen.. Too many fingers in the honey pot for that...

Yabaa allegedly pays the salaries of the foot soldiers of the disparate militias that are fighting the junta in Myanmar.

Apparently the illicit sales of captagon (speed) was how al-Assad's army was paid in Syria.

Kokang is the Chinese region of Myanmar that was run by the Yang family in British Burma. The Wa State is not Chinese but the Wa permit Chinese gangsters to operate illegal casinos, prostitution rings, produce and trade in drugs and more in return for weapons and cash. The Wa Army in return provides protection for the Chinese. This allows the Wa to remain independent from the central government as they did in colonial times.
