USA has the most expensive Health Insurance, WHY?

Post by Doodoo » December 16, 2024, 4:37 pm

Confusion why the States does not want to have a medical system such as the UK, Canada and other countries, rather than paying insurance companies to provide

You have posted a rhetorical question, Dd - the answer is all laid out in the link you included.

And yet many deluded Americans still believe they have the world's best healthcare system - because they, in many cases I suspect - also believe that capitalism/private enterprise is the answer to everything. [-X

One of the reasons among a lot of other reasons why it is so high is the Tort insurance premiums that the US doctors are required to pay. In my opinion the cost of medical care in Thailand is a bargain and just as good when it is compared to the cost of medical in the US. In my and my wife's experiences in the last 12 years the medical care that we have received here in Thailand has been very good.

Maybe it was a really long and very, very good colonoscopy?

what bugs me about US health care is if you go into the hospital for anything you can't walk out at the end with one billing.. You'll end up getting billed for the doctors, the nurses, the lab work, the specialist who reivewed the lab work, the X-ray tech, and on and on.. Not one consolidated bill but a dribble of bill after bill slowly arrving over months.. When you go in, you're not told what your health insurance, Medicare etc will cover. You'll end up with bills to your personnally for items kicked back by your insurance.. Ridiculous...

And then, there are greedy lawyers who file insane law suits. If they win, the juries grant insane multi million dollar settlements. There is no doubt that incompetent doctors and hospitals make serious mistakes and there needs to be justice but at what cost ? Put a bounty on lawyers and things would go much smoother.

I'm sure that frivolous litigation, like the rootin', tootin', shootin' right to bear arms, is enshrined somewhere in the US Constitution.

That is mostly because in the majority of cases the winning party can’t claim their legal costs. This means that though the claim may be ridiculous the lawyers and clients know exactly how much they are on the hook for.

Change the US legal system to make losers usually have to pay the fee of the winning party and the numbers of lawsuits and lawyers drop exponentially.

In the USA if a cop or fed steals $10,000 cash from you, though you may be able to make them return the money your legal costs will mean that you virtually get nothing. Make take LEO’s have to both pay you back and pay your legal costs and expenses and Civil Asset Forfeiture will disappear.

It’s not just that lawyers are greedy, it’s that they are gambling and on average they win. So the legal profession attracts greedy gamblers

In my posts all fees and requirements are the standard R&R but TIT and a brown envelope can make incredible changes YMMV.
